This document contains basic product and configuration information that will enable you to configure your system via 

PC-/System-Architect 

Only these tools will ensure a fast and proper configuration of your PRIMERGY server or your complete 

P R I M E R G Y R a c k s y s t e m . 

You can configure your individual PRIMERGY server in order to adjust your specific requirements. 

The System configurator is divided into several chapters that are identical to the current price list and PC-/System-Architect. 

Please follow the lines. If there is a junction, you can choose which way or component you would like to take. Go through 

the configurator by following the lines from the top to the bottom.

There are 6 memory slots available (3 banks, each bank consists of two slots => 2 modules per bank are necessary) 

They can optionally be equipped with 256 MB, 512 MB, 1GB and 2GB modules. 

One bank optionally can be configured as hot spare bank. 

In each basic unit the first memory bank is already equipped with either 512MB, 1GB, 2GB or 4GB memory, 

so the memory extensions can still be configured up to two times for the second and third memory bank. 

Maximum configurable memory extension is 12 GB. 

No mix of modules within one memory bank allowed.

Section V Accessible drives 

There are 4 bays (3x 5,25"/1x 3,5") for accessible drives.The 3.5" bay is occupied by a 1.44MB Floppy disk 1" high. 

2 of the 5,25" bays are half Hight and 1 is slim Line. 

For the accessible 2x 5,25" bays an HDD extension box can be configured 

( occupies 2x 5,25" ) providing 3x 1" bays for 1" SCSI HDDs. 

In this case no additional backup drive is possible 

An option "hot plug backup drive", occupying 2x 1" HD bays can be configured in this HD extension box. 

In this case one additional 1" SCSI HDD is possible in this box. 

The hot plug backup drive requires either embedded RAID1 "IME" 

( Integrated Mirroring Enhanced ) or a 1- or 2- channel U320 RAID controller

Section VII SCSI-/ on-board SCSI-Controller 

On-board SCSI-controller for accessible drives and SCSI-HDs 

The system is equipped with a two channel Utra 320 SCSI on-board controller and embedded "IME". 

IME (Integrated Mirroring Enhanced) offers the RAID levels 1, 1E witout any additional costs. 

IME is a RAID 1 implementation ( no RAID 0 support ), which also can operate with an odd number of hard disks 

( 1 RAID 1 set on chanel A ). Up to 6 hard disks including one hot spare HD are possible depending on the 

system. Administration of IME is possible with the LSI Global Array Manager (GAM). 

Windows2000/2003 as well as SuSe and RedHat Linux are supported ( Restrictions refer to Software Configurator ) 

Example with 3 HD`s: 

1-channel standard SCSI-cabling of a PRIMERGY TX200 S2 basic unit with on-board Controller 

1. Channel A of the Ultra 320 SCSI Controller is connected to the 6 internal hard disks, if no additional HD Controllers are 

configured for internal HDs. 

2. Channel B of the Ultra 320 SCSI Controller is available for internal or external accessible SCSI drives. 

For external use an "External on-board SCSI Interface" (S26361-F2814-E7) has to be configured. 

All internal cables and adapters for the basic unit and for components are included.

Section X 1-channel SCSI- / RAID-cabling 

Various alternatives for SCSI-cabling of a PRIMERGY TX200 S2 basic unit with 1x6 HD's 

and optional HDD-Box for additional 1x3 HDs 

Attention !! Only standard configurations can be cabled ex works like described in following 

examples. Configurations which differ from these standards or are more complex, 

for instance with more than one RAID controller, possibly have to be recabled afterwards or 

can be ordered via Customizing in exactly the same configuration like the customer requests. 

In this case additionally the exact slot position and the exact hard disk position can be defined 

Configuration of the basic unit with on-board SCSI Controller: Config. 1a + 1b 

The backplane (with one channel - max. 6 HD`s) in a basic configuration is connected 

to channel A of the on-board Ultra 320 SCSI controller. With this controller hot-replace of HD`s is possible 

with the embedded "IME" function ( Integrated Mirroring Enhanced = RAID 1). 

Channel B of the on-board Ultra 320 SCSI controller is available for accessible SCSI drives. 

An optional HD extension box for three additional hard disks can be connected to this channel. 

Configuration of the basic unit with the Zero-Channel RAID controller LSI 320-0x : Config. 1a + 1b 

The on-board SCSI-Controller is used together with the optional Zero-Channel RAID Controller LSI 320-0x for 

SCSI-HDs. Pls see section VIII Disk Array for order information. 

The backplane (with one channel - max. 6 HDs) in a PRIMERGY TX200 S2 basic configuration is connected 

to channel A of the on-board Ultra 320 SCSI Controller. 

With the Zero-Channel RAID Controller hot-replace of HDs is possible ( RAID 1 + 5 ). 

Channel B of the on-board Ultra 320 SCSI Controller is available for accessible SCSI drives. 

An optional HD extension box for three additional hard disks can be connected to this channel. 

Configuration of the basic unit with a 2-channel Disk Array Controller (DAC) : Config. 3a+b, 5, 7 

Pls see section VIII Disk Array for order information. 

If a 2-channel Disk Array Controller is used for the internal hard disks of a PRIMERGY TX200 S2, 

channel B of the on-board Ultra 320 SCSI Controller is available for internal accessible SCSI backup drives. 

The channel A of the on-board Ultra 320 SCSI Controller can be connected to external SCSI components 

if the "External onboard SCSI Interface" option ( S26361-F2814-E7 ) is configured. 

(See description on-board SCSI controller, section VII). 

Cabling priorities: 

In configurations with a Disk Array Controller the system is cabled according to following priorities. 

(Prio 1 - 4 ): 

1.) For a configuration with on-board SCSI or Zero-Channel RAID controller Config. 1a + 1b 

channel A of the on-board controller is connected to the 6 internal HDs. 

If an optional HD extension box for 3 additional hard disks or a SCSI backup drive is configured 

they are connected to channel B of the on-board controller.

“Zero-Channel RAID“ + Backup Drives 

Additional controller for a performant backup solution 

Attention ! If you use the “Zero-Channel RAID“ 

without an additional HDD-Box, channel A is always connected to the SCSI backplane 

for the 6 HD`s and channel B is connected to the backup-drives. ( Configuration 1a ) 

In this configuration it is possible, that with high load on the HD channel and 

concurrent backup operation no optimal backup performance can be obtained 

( Start-Stop-operation ), because the Zero-Channel RAID5 I/O-processor internally 

always gives priority to the HD-access. 

There are three possibilities to solve this problem. 

Solution 1: Start the backup only if reduced HD load can be expected. 

( Limited user-activities for instance over night ). 

Solution 2: Configuration of an additional SCSI controller 

for backup is possible, but the cable has to be disconnected from Channel B 

and connected to the SCSI controller by the customer 

This Solution 2.) however is not recommended 

because the more performant and regarding cost equivalent Solution 3.) 

can be ordered as standard configuration ex works.
