Mathematics
For Class of 2010 and earlier, the state requires 3 math credits Algebra I or higher to graduate. For the Class
of 2011 and after, 4 math credits are required for graduation, to include Algebra I or an equivalent. The state
and school board’s Algebra I requirement can be satisfied by taking Algebra I OR taking Algebra I a PLUS
Algebra I b; students may receive credit for only one series of those courses.
Math courses must be taken in a certain
progression. Your math instructor will help you
choose the correct course to take next.
Algebra
These courses develop the algebraic concepts
and processes that can be used to solve a variety
of real-world and mathematical problems.
Algebra I a 1200370
1 year; 1 math credit; grade 9-10; prerequisite:
8 th grade instructor recommendation.
Algebra I b 1200380
1 year; 1 math credit; grade 10-11; prerequisite:
pass Algebra 1a.
Algebra I 1200310
1 year; 1 math credit; grade 9-10; prerequisite: 8 th
grade math instructor approval.
Algebra I Honors 1200320
1 year; 1 math weighted + credit; grade 9;
prerequisite: repeating 8 th grade Algebra I Honors,
grade of A in Pre Algebra.

A/B/C in Algebra I and Geometry.

1 year; 1 weighted + math credit; grade 9-10;
prerequisite: A/B in Geometry H/IB or IB student.

C or D in Algebra II
Liberal Arts Math 1208300
Career Prep. 1 year; 1 math credit; grade 12;
prerequisite: Informal Geometry. See NOTE.

NOTE: Liberal Arts Math and Informal Geometry
are not considered to be at the Algebra I level or
above. Since these courses have not been
identified as college preparatory courses by the
State University System, they may not be used to
meet the mathematics requirement for the FAS
and FMS awards. However, these courses may
be used to meet the mathematics requirement for
the Gold Seal Vocational Scholars award.
Geometry
The purpose of these courses is to develop the
geometric relationships and deductive strategies
that can be used to solve a variety of real world
and mathematical problems.

Calculus Prep Courses
The purpose of these courses is to develop and
supplement the understanding of advanced topics
below the level of calculus.
