New Faculty and Staff<br />
ADAM BECK, JD, joined <strong>The</strong> <strong>American</strong><br />
<strong>College</strong> in August 2013 as Assistant<br />
Professor of Health Insurance. He is the<br />
instruc<strong>to</strong>r for HS 345 Essentials of Healthcare<br />
Reform, HS 346 <strong>The</strong> Healthcare Consultant,<br />
FP 77 Introduction <strong>to</strong> Healthcare Reform and<br />
HS 351 Health and Long-Term Care for Seniors.<br />
Adam is an at<strong>to</strong>rney who most recently practiced law in<br />
Philadelphia and has worked for Sellers Dorsey, a national<br />
healthcare consulting firm, two Presidential campaigns and<br />
the U.S. Department of Justice.<br />
C.W. COPELAND, Ph.D., joined <strong>The</strong><br />
<strong>American</strong> <strong>College</strong> in July 2013 as Assistant<br />
Professor of Insurance. In this capacity, he<br />
conducts scholarly research in behavioral<br />
economics and teaches graduate-level<br />
business courses. He is the instruc<strong>to</strong>r for<br />
FA257 Essentials of Life Insurance Products<br />
and HS 323 Individual Life Insurance. He is<br />
also a regular guest on radio and television shows, addressing<br />
audiences on financial planning strategies. Prior <strong>to</strong> joining<br />
<strong>The</strong> <strong>College</strong>, Dr. Copeland served for 13 years as an adjunct<br />
professor in the School of Business at Clark-Atlanta University<br />
and 15 years as an instruc<strong>to</strong>r with RS Thomas Training<br />
Associates, providing pre-licensing training, continuing<br />
education and business development advice for financial<br />
services professionals.<br />

A DECADE OF PROGRESS<br />
MELISANDE McCREA, Ph.D., joined <strong>The</strong><br />
<strong>American</strong> <strong>College</strong> in July 2013 as Associate Dean of<br />
Academics and Executive Direc<strong>to</strong>r of the New York<br />
Life Doc<strong>to</strong>ral Program. In this capacity, she assists with<br />
administration of <strong>The</strong> <strong>College</strong>’s academic programs<br />
and professional designations. Dr. McCrea most<br />
recently served on the faculty at Eastern University’s<br />
School of Management Studies where she taught research methods at<br />
the graduate and undergraduate level. Earlier in her career, she led the<br />
video communication efforts of Penn State University. Dr. McCrae’s<br />
areas of expertise include outcomes-based curriculum design,<br />
assessment of student learning, Human Performance Technology<br />
and research design.<br />
THOMAS ARMINGTON joined <strong>The</strong> <strong>American</strong><br />
<strong>College</strong> as Associate Vice President, Assessment,<br />
Institutional Research and Examinations. He is<br />
spearheading <strong>The</strong> <strong>College</strong>’s assessment efforts<br />
focused on developing a reposi<strong>to</strong>ry of data on<br />
student and institutional outcomes, and<br />
developing the process for using that data for<br />
continuous improvement. <strong>The</strong> purpose of assessment is <strong>to</strong> demonstrate<br />
the degree <strong>to</strong> which <strong>The</strong> <strong>College</strong> is fulfilling its mission of raising the<br />
level of professionalism of its students and, by extension, the financial<br />
services industry, with the larger goal of strengthening the financial<br />
security of the individuals, families, businesses and societies they serve.<br />
Tom has experience in large-scale data collections in the education,<br />
employment, and workforce training areas, with his most recent<br />
position being Senior Program Analyst with Mathematica Policy<br />
Research in Prince<strong>to</strong>n, N.J.<br />
Dr. Craig W. Lemoine, CFP ® , recently completed<br />
his Ph.D. in Personal Financial Planning from Texas<br />
Tech University. He is also finishing his term as<br />
Chair for the CFP Board’s Council on Education.<br />
Dr. Wade Pfau published, “Analyzing an Income<br />
Guarantee Rider in a Retirement Portfolio,” in<br />
the Journal of Retirement, Vol. 1, No. 1(Summer<br />
2013), and co-authored with Dr. Michael Finke,<br />
CFP ® , and David Blanchett, CFP ® , “<strong>The</strong> 4 Percent<br />
Rule Is Not Safe in a Low-Yield World,” in the Journal of<br />
Financial Planning, Vol. 26, No. 6 (June 2013). He also<br />
appeared on the San Diego radio show, Your Money Your<br />
Wealth, in August 2013; and, in July 2013, on the nationally<br />
syndicated show, Retirement Radio Network.<br />
Dr. David Nanigian recently presented “Capitalizing on<br />
the Greatest Anomaly in Finance with Mutual Funds” at<br />
the World Finance Conference. He also received media<br />
coverage for “5 Things You Should Know about Targetdate<br />
Funds” (Interest.com, July 15, 2013) and “Why Hyperactively<br />
Managed Funds” (Research Magazine, July 2013).<br />
Gerald J. Herbison, DBA, MSM, CASL ® , ChFC ® ,<br />
CFP ® , CLF ® , completed all the requirements for his<br />
DBA in August 2013. He received his degree from<br />
Wilming<strong>to</strong>n University in Delaware.<br />
