Student and Alumni Engagement<br />

Whether you are a new student, recent graduate, or longtime<br />

alumnus of <strong>The</strong> <strong>American</strong> <strong>College</strong>, there are more opportunities<br />

<strong>to</strong>day than ever before <strong>to</strong> engage with <strong>The</strong> <strong>College</strong>. Events like<br />

the Knowledge Summit, LIVE Alumni Tours, the Travel-Learn<br />

Cruise and Conference of African <strong>American</strong> Financial Professionals<br />

are fantastic for networking and continuing education credits.<br />

<strong>College</strong> recently added adjunct faculty members <strong>to</strong> supplement<br />

the full-time faculty members. Open enrollments are held in the<br />

suburbs of Philadelphia, in Chicago and in South Florida. One of<br />

the most popular new IRPs is a review for the CFP ® exam, taught<br />

by instruc<strong>to</strong>rs who have served on the CFP ® Board.<br />

<strong>The</strong> 2013 Knowledge Summit was the most successful ever, with<br />

more than 2,000 registrations and 1,300 people “walking” at<br />

commencement. <strong>The</strong> LIVE Alumni Tour visited three cities—Miami,<br />

Bos<strong>to</strong>n and Los Angeles—with sellout crowds and popular<br />

speakers. Alumni were able <strong>to</strong> network with each other across the<br />

country, while learning helpful tips <strong>to</strong> improve their practice.<br />

Students are benefiting from more interaction with <strong>The</strong> <strong>College</strong><br />

and its faculty. <strong>The</strong> <strong>College</strong> continues <strong>to</strong> have a widely respected<br />

online delivery system, but is also seeing demand increase for<br />

its Intensive Review Programs. Known as IRPs, this method of<br />

instruction involves a 2.5-day live classroom environment. Highly<br />

qualified faculty provide students with 16 hours of intensive<br />

review of all the major course concepts, and end the program<br />

with a final exam. <strong>The</strong> IRP enables students <strong>to</strong> move through<br />

coursework quickly and conveniently, and engage directly with<br />

college faculty. IRPs are more popular than ever before, whether<br />

held during an open enrollment or through company-exclusive<br />

offerings. In 2013, <strong>The</strong> <strong>College</strong> held 149 IRPs, compared with<br />

110 in 2012, a 30 percent increase. Demand is so high that <strong>The</strong><br />

This alumni magazine features industry updates, technical articles, and news about <strong>The</strong> <strong>American</strong> <strong>College</strong><br />

alumni. Edited by Senior Vice President Steve Tarr, the magazine was the dreamchild of Louis P. DiCerbo, II,<br />

CLU ® , ChFC ® , LUTCF. He personally funded the initial issue of the publication that now has a circulation of<br />

60,000+.
