A Paparazzi Purim The Faces of Purim 2012 This year’s Purim celebration was a huge success! We want to thank: Louis Zweig and all the great people at Glazer’s who provided outstanding beverage services; Jeffrey Kollinger and Spice of Life Catering for the great food; Lane Mizrahi and Audiophile for the music; A very special thank you to Joel Alhadef, Janet and Jeff Beck and Sharon and Chuck Levin for their financial contributions which enabled us to host an After-After Party for the Young Professionals in the community; Our Purim Chair, Michael Zimmermann; Mona Allen, our Program Director; and the entire maintenance, professional and support staff. Also, special thanks to Robin Littrell, Membership Coordinator, along with our Mishloach Manot co-chairs: Lisa and Randy Fleisher Krista and Craig Weinstein Melanie and Jeff Wynne The Weitzman Family Religious School for their help to assemble boxes; All the volunteers who helped to assemble and deliver; Brian Schultz for his donation of Studio Movie Grill tickets; and Dr. Pepper Snapple/Deja Blue Water for their donation of water bottles to the boxes. Please feel free to contact us at thegallery@shearith.org or 214.939.7343 President’s Letter/Mid-Term Report - Susan Ehrlich As the first year of my presidency ends and the second begins, I reflect with pride on SISterhood’s many accomplishments. The theme for my presidency has been CSI, Communicate (information), Stimulate (involvement) and Integrate (members). So in an effort to Communicate with the shul congregants as well as SISterhood members, I would like to share with you some of our new projects and programs. • SISterhood contributed to much needed improvements in our shul kitchen. We spent in excess of $30,000 this year purchasing: • convection ovens for both the meat and dairy kitchens • glassware, platters, storage and dishwasher racks • a gas griddle for the dairy kitchen • 40 round tables • Thanks to Salli Goldstein and Arona Ackermann, we added two new programs this year, trying to reach out to those who can’t or don’t like to go out in the evening. We had a beautiful and well-attended Winter Luncheon and Style Show in December, and sprinkled throughout the year, we had Movie in the Morning at the Pidgeon Family Theater. • Sheryl Pidgeon and Nancy Roffman were instrumental in starting SISterhood’s new initiative to sell healthful snacks to religious school students on Wednesday afternoons with the Snack Shack. • Our Mitzvah-a-Meeting Chairs, Shira Goldberg and Melissa Steiner worked closely with the IMPACT committee as we conducted monthly mitzvahs including collecting school uniforms, writing High Holy Day cards to our Jewish troops, collecting for the coat drive, supporting the Berry Family fundraiser, collecting blankets for the Austin Street Shelter, collecting baby items for the Vogel Alcove and supporting the Dallas County Humane Society. • Myra Migicovsky, serving as Historian, has faithfully photographed all our major events. Many of her photos have been posted on Facebook. • Insuring good communications with our members and the whole congregation, Lori Cohen served as our publicity chair, and thanks to Avra Carr, SISterhood now has a presence on Facebook. Be sure to “like” us there and watch as we post information and pictures from our events as well as new items in The Gallery. • In an effort to recognize and express our gratitude, SISterhood has begun a tradition of presenting a small gift to the CSI staff at Thanksgiving and religious school teachers at the end of the year. All of these are in addition to our continuing programs and activities: • Membership Drive • Fundraising including High Holy Day Booklet, Major Fundraising Event with this year’s keynote Jennifer Weiner, the Tootsie Fonberg, z”l Mah Jongg Tournament, The Gallery, Passover Candy Sales • Torah Fund this year honoring Shirley Davidoff • Sponsorships and underwriting of Golden Years Shabbat Kiddush luncheon, Truck Time, Young Professionals event, Family Center end of year party, fruit for the Sandwich Drive • Programs including Miriam’s Seder, Break the Fast at Beit Aryeh, SISterhood Shabbat • We continue to support the Weitzman Family Religious School with gifts for the bar/bat mitzvah students as well as confirmation, high school and college graduations, supplying treats and favors for holidays, providing stipends for Israel travel and scholarships for USY conventions and underwriting the cost of the program where our students create their own yads (Torah pointers). None of these programs and initiatives would be possible without the dedication and commitment of the SISterhood Board of Directors. This is a multigenerational board, all of whom lead busy lives in and out of our shul. I am thankful for their generosity, creativity, passion and spirit. I especially want to thank my extraordinary Executive Committee for diligently heading their various committees and working cooperatively at our quarterly meetings to set policies and procedures. These ladies are dedicated to SISterhood and the shul and each one provides a unique insight for our consideration. The Executive Committee includes Laurie Steinberg, Janice Berman, Nancy Roffman, Laura Collins, Dora Rudberg, Arona Ackermann, Abby Goldfarb, Miriam Honig, Roz Benjet, Karen Topletz, Cynthia Cohen, Andrea Bard, Lisa Fleisher, Gail Mizrahi, Brenda Levine and Debbie Weinstein. Most of these ladies will continue on for my second term. Finally, I would like to express my gratitude to the Klay Kodesh, Kim West – our new COO, and the CSI Officers and staff members for supporting SISterhood in all its endeavors. In particular, I would like to thank Sharon Levin, CSI President, for working so closely and cooperatively with me to insure that SISterhood’s goals could be met. I look forward to working with all of you again in the coming year. 11
