It’s that time of year when Ward and Piper come together
to be teammates instead of rivals. The Wa-Pi (Ward-Piper) swim
team is looking to have another good season. Coached by Amy
Bartlow and Sandy Dailey, the girls have been working hard in
the pool to achieve their goals.
The two senior captains this year are Kate Dorian and
Elizabeth Connor. Kate is hoping to get her career best times,
win the WYCO meet for the fourth straight time, and return
to state. Kate hopes that the team will continue to grow, and
Elizabeth looks to get her times down and try new events. She is
most excited to meet all of the Piper girls and to not be a “tadpole”
(newcomer) anymore!
The Wa-Pi girls are looking to swim their way into a
WYCO Championship and to a successful season. Be sure to
come out and support these pretty fishies. Good luck, ladies.
Golf
Outburst Writers: Danielle Lowe and Kate Dorian
Though hampered by late winter snow storms, Bishop
Ward’s golf team boasts four new teammates as well as veteran
golfers. Practice has been moved inside which limits the amount
of actual playing time. “We can only do so much inside; outside
is where the fun begins,” senior Danielle Lowe explains.
Head Coach Tomasic commends the experienced upperclassmen
who have set good examples for the new and younger
members of the team. He admits that the team’s schedule will
be challenging but hopes that he and Coach Kelly will instill a
love of the game, which is a lifetime sport.
Assistant Coach Kelly expects improvement and intelligent
play from all golfers. He looks to Danielle and other
experienced players to lead the team.
Veteran players include senior Danielle Lowe and juniors
Andrew Huey, Jimmy Bartolac, and Connor Burns. The first
tournament is the Sunflower Invitational, which is slated for
Saturday, March 23. Good luck golfers.
