Calculation for expansion equipment
Basic concepts for the calculation of
expansion equipment
To select the right expansion appliance, it is necessary
to understand the following principles:
• Static height
This is the height of the system, between the
connection of the Flexcon expansion equipment and
the highest point, measured in water column metres
(1 wcm = 0.1 barg).
• System water capacity
If unknown it is based on 12 l/kW.
• Increase in water volume (in %)
The table below shows data on the water volume
increase in percentage points when the temperature
of the water increases by between 10 °C and
110 °C.
• Expansion volume
The expansion volume is determined in the following
way: expansion volume = capacity x increase in
volume at the average heating temperature.
Example: heating temperature 90/70 °C
(average 80 °C) = 2.89%.
• Power capacity
This is the sum of the nominal capacity [kW].
• Capacity of the Flamcomat pump expansion
appliance
The capacity of a pump expansion appliance is
determined in the following way:
capacity of expansion appliance = expansion
volume / 0.8.
The factor of 0.8 is based on the following
assumptions:
• The working capacity of the vessel allows for
switching and differentiation.
• Corrections to tolerances which, according to
various standards, are admissible for parts of the
system.
Note: different selection values apply to cooling systems.
