vessels/obstruction etc) which may be a danger to shipping or to the
mariner.
(b) Warnings for Special Operations like rocket /missile firing covering wide
areas (including adjacent NAVAREAs).
(i) Warnings of confidential nature such as special operations/missile
test firing etc are to be referred by the originating agencies to IHQ MoD
(Navy)/DNO in time, for accord of approval of the text of the message.
The request for NAVAREA warning along with IHQ MoD (Navy)/DNO
approval is to be forwarded to the Chief Hydrographer so as to reach
minimum ten working days prior to the scheduled trials/launch date
(definitive launch window) by the originating agency.
(ii) The concerned authorities shall provide information about the
Danger Zone Co-ordinates, Time duration of exercise and Safeguards, if
any. The concerned authority shall take into account the impact of
designated area on the safety of maritime traffic & economical
operations. The danger zones shall be calculated in accordance with
range safety guidelines so as to keep clear of shipping lanes and
inhabited land mass. Amplifying details like name, address (postal &
email id), telephone numbers (fax/mobile no) of contact persons are also
to be provided.
(iii) The agencies may refer to the latest nautical charts and
publications for the existing dangers and navigational information. The
Notices to Mariners and NAVAREA warnings in force can be also be
downloaded from the official website of National Hydrographic Office
(www.hydrobharat.nic.in).
(iv) Firing exercises conducted by Indian Army Air Defence College,
IAF over areas which fall outside the designated firing and exercise
areas as specified in Special Notice No 9 of Indian Notice to Mariners -
Special Edition 2008 are also to be referred to IHQ MoD (Navy)/DNO by
the concerned authorities.
(v) In the case of danger zone coordinates extending into other
NAVAREAS (neighbouring countries) or close to international
boundaries all necessary clearance /approval from Ministry of External
Affairs has to be taken by the conducting agencies.
(vi) The originating authorities are to notify the Chief Hydrographer,
NHO (NAVAREA Coordinator) if there is any change in the trials/launch
dates for cancellation and issue of fresh NAVAREA warning.
