MESSAGEE
1. The Indiann Naval Hydrographic Department has over the years, contributed
significantly to
international maritime requirements, by furnishing accurate and
reliable hydrographic services that have enhanced
offshore development and
safety at sea. Promulgation of highh quality and prompt Maritime Safety information
in support of the safety of life and property
at sea is
the mandate of the Chief
Hydrographer
who is also the coordinator of the NAVAREA VIII region.
2. In the recent past there has been some
ambiguity
in respect of navigational
warnings affecting same
geographical locations. Navigational warnings affecting
large
areas like those relating to experimental rocket launches/space
based
operations have certain issues which merit urgent attention.
3. The Maritime Safety Information (MSI) Workshop conducted at National
Hydrographic
Office Dehradun provided us a valuable
opportunity to address the
concerns of all national stakeholders. These guidelines have
been prepared
incorporating
the recommendations of all concerned
agencies
with a view to
streamline the procedures for promulgation of NAVAREA warnings.
