Breast Reconstruction‐ Autologous • Essentially uses your tissues to reconstruct your breasts • Relies on plastic surgery concept of flaps • A flap is a segment of tissue containing a blood supply (known as a pedicle) that is moved from its donor site (“point A”) to reconstruct a secondary defect (“point B”) • Two methods of moving from “point A” to “point B” • Pedicled (flap is still attached to its blood supply) • Free (blood supply is disconnected and reconnected at a new site using a plastic surgery technique known as microsurgery
