CLASS NOTES<br />

John Ruffier, <strong>of</strong> Lowndes Drosdick Doster Kantor & Reed, was<br />

featured by Orlando Business Journal among the top vote<br />

recipients <strong>of</strong> Central <strong>Florida</strong> lawyers winning peer approval.<br />

He was also listed in the publication’s “Best <strong>of</strong> the Bar.”<br />

Stephen Fulton Shaw was awarded a Ph.D. degree from the<br />

UF School <strong>of</strong> Design, Construction & Planning. The topic <strong>of</strong><br />

his dissertation is fairness <strong>of</strong> school impact fees.<br />

Dabney D. Ware, senior counsel at the Jacksonville <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong><br />

Foley & Lardner, was elected as a partner. Ware is a member <strong>of</strong><br />

the Litigation Department and the Labor & Employment Practice.<br />

1997<br />

Chad S. Bowen, a partner with the Tampa law firm <strong>of</strong><br />

Jennis, Bowen and Brundage, received his national certification<br />

in business bankruptcy law.<br />

Darin S. Christensen (LLMT), from the West Coast law<br />

firm Bullivant Houser Bailey, was selected as a 2006<br />

Oregon Super <strong>Law</strong>yer for his tax law practice.<br />

Charles C. Connors (LLMT) is an Atlanta-based partner for<br />

the timberland law practice <strong>of</strong> Powell Goldstein.<br />

John T. Marshall, a Holland & Knight associate in Tampa, was<br />

made a partner. He is a member <strong>of</strong> the firm’s Real Estate Section<br />

and practices in the areas <strong>of</strong> civil litigation, land use and zoning.<br />

Vincent E. Miller opened the law <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> Vincent E. Miller in<br />

Delray Beach. The firm’s practice areas include business<br />

litigation and complex personal injury. Miller is married to<br />

Jennifer Quildon-Miller (JD 97), and they live in Boca Raton.<br />

Todd B. Reinstein was elected partner with Pepper Hamilton<br />

in Washington, D.C. He focuses on the corporate structuring<br />

<strong>of</strong> domestic and international transactions, corporate tax<br />

counseling, tax due diligence, tax shelter compliance and the<br />

overall tax aspects <strong>of</strong> bankruptcy and workouts.<br />

Lauderdale. Rubinger is a member <strong>of</strong> the firm’s Business Section<br />

Anthony J. Scaletta (LLMT) was elected partner <strong>of</strong> Baker &<br />

Hostetler. Scaletta is a member <strong>of</strong> the tax group and concentrates<br />

1998<br />

Nicole K. Atkinson, an associate with the law firm <strong>of</strong><br />

Gunster, Yoakley & Stewart in West Palm Beach, was named<br />

to the Board <strong>of</strong> Directors <strong>of</strong> Hospice Foundation <strong>of</strong> Palm<br />

Beach County.<br />

Matthew G. Breuer was elected partner <strong>of</strong> the Jacksonville<br />

<strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> Foley & Lardner. Breuer is a member <strong>of</strong> the Business<br />

<strong>Law</strong> Department and the firm’s Real Estate Practice.<br />

Bradley J. Bondi recently became a partner with the international<br />

Rebecca C. Cavendish, <strong>of</strong> Gunster, Yoakley & Stewart in<br />

UF <strong>Law</strong> Alums<br />

Leading the State<br />

The fourth most populated state in the nation with a<br />

state budget <strong>of</strong> about $65 million now has a UF <strong>Law</strong> alumnus<br />

as its lieutenant governor. Jeff Kottkamp (JD 87) was<br />

elected with Gov. Charlie Crist to serve a four-year term.<br />

Kottkamp previously served on the <strong>Florida</strong> House <strong>of</strong><br />

Representatives and was chairman <strong>of</strong> the Judiciary<br />

Appropriations Committee and vice chairman <strong>of</strong> the Rules<br />

and Calendar Council.<br />

Several other <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Florida</strong> <strong>Law</strong> alumni are<br />

taking on state leadership roles in <strong>Florida</strong> as well, including<br />

the following appointments:<br />

Lorraine O’Hanlon Rogers was named managing member <strong>of</strong><br />

Schwarzberg Spector Duke Schulz & Rogers’s new northern Palm<br />

Beach County <strong>of</strong>fice. She focuses her practice on employment law<br />

defense, including Title VII, ADA accommodation, Family and<br />

Medical Leave Act and Fair Labor Standards Act litigation.<br />

Mariane L. Dorris became a partner in Latham, Shuker, Barker,<br />
