Ostriches should be stunned only electrically. The tongs are placed<br />

either at the sides <strong>of</strong> the head below <strong>and</strong> behind the eye or above <strong>and</strong><br />

below the head (Fig. 59). Poultry can be stunned electrically using a<br />

manually operated device (Fig. 60) or using an automatic water bath<br />

(Fig. 61). Here birds are dragged through a trough <strong>of</strong> water that is<br />

charged with a low voltage current.<br />
