The Year KWS Wiburd Shield team will now play the Scots School in Round 1 of The Wiburd Shield. It
is hoped that the game will be played on the main oval. The team has to consist of boys in Year 9 of lower
years. Weekend performances will be used to select this team.
KWS 1 st X1 vs CYMS 2 day Game
KWS played CYMS at Ex-Services Country Club. KWS
were sent in on what proved to be a good batting
wicket. Kinross were without the Year 12 boys who
were finishing their HSC Examinations. Kane Gardner
was in sparking form in the and posted a hard hitting 30
to get the innings off to good start. Charles Litchfield
was promoted in the order and opened confidently
before being brilliantly caught down the leg side by Chris
Kostoglou who now keeps for CYMS. Tom Harbison 17
and Tom Bristow 27 batted effectively to progress the
score to 100. The highlight of the day was the innings of
Nick Lukins who batted with style and character to
score an excellent 45 in his debut for the firsts. He was
well supported by Gus Griffiths, Jack Rogers and Damian
Hill and in the end the team had posted a total of 171.
CYMS then took to the crease and immediately Jack
Rogers and Mark Gardner had CYMS on the back foot
with the wickets falling at regular intervals. At the end of
the day after KWS had CYMS at 5-60 off 33 overs.
Coach Mark Gardner had the figures of 3-23 from 14
overs with Gus Griffiths and Tom Harbison also taking
wickets. Although the team is well positioned CYMS
have strong batsmen to come and the game is far from
decided.
OPEN JUNIORS KWS 2 VS Orange City 28 over
game KWS 8-147 Orange City 97
KWS won the toss and decided to bat posting a good
total of 8- 147. Lachlan Williams 28 and Max Dodds 24
got the innings off to a great start. Jarrod Frecklington
having a break from the HSC study hit a quick fire 24
with the rest of the team all contributing to a good total
from their allocated overs.
David Crombie and Sam Chalker tore into the Orange
City to order with Sam picking up 3 wickets for 9 off 4
overs. Gus Grittiths took a classic catch off a David
Crombie that ball was smashed into the covers. Captain
Jack Marchinton also bowled well to take two wickets
from 4 overs. A late order revival saw City reach 97
before they were dismissed in the final over. Well done
to all the boys on a strong performance.
KWS 2nds def Cavaliers
It was an outstanding team display which led to a great
win. Batting first is a great idea as long as a good total is
set. Lachlan Williams and Micheal Tremain set up a nice
platform and a commanding innings by David Pratten
(35) allowed KWS to be 5/95 after 20 overs. Wickets
were tumbling a little faster than the coach would have
hoped and it was a magnificent partnership from Jack
Yeomans (35) and Woody McClymont (24) which led
the team out of the danger zone. Mr Smedley then
fluked 23n.o. to put the icing on the cake.
With Cavs set 205 for victory it was always going to
need a steady start from the KWS bowlers. Once again
Sam Nicholls was excellent taking 2/9 off his first 6 overs
and Jack Marchington(1/19) and an ever improving Jack
Yeomans (2/11) put on the brakes. With regular wickets
falling and some excellent fielding, including a couple of
difficult catches Dave Pratten made look easy and a
couple of sitters Mr Smedley made look extremely
difficult, the KWS team was in the box seat. The game
was then taken away from the Cav’s team with Micheal
Tremain(1/8 off 8) and Sam Pratten(0/11 off 6) bowling
wonderfully in tandem to dry up the runs and provide
the team a glimpse at what it may have felt like to be in
the Australian test team when Warnie and Pidge were
on song.
A great days cricket played in great spirit and the KWS
team was well rewarded for their consistency. Well
done to Peter Crisp with his 3/20 for Cav’s as well.
15 KWS Clarkes v Orange City
KWS recorded a sterling win against Orange City with
some very tense moments at time which got the heart
racing. After winning the toss and bowling first we
reduced the opposition to 15 after 9 overs. A hugely
impressive first three overs from Sam ‘Brett Lee’
Nicholls with one being a maiden and the other two
wicket maidens. Impressive bowling also came from Alex
Webster and Jaden Watson who took two
wickets. However some sloppy bowing towards the end
of the match meant City finished up on 108. Will ‘Alistair
Cook’ Olsen produced a very fine 19 as the opening
batman, although the rest of the openers unfortunately
fell to some very good City bowling. However KWS had
