* A loss is defined as: • For a hand or a foot: severance through or above the wrist or ankle • For sight: complete, total and irrecoverable loss to the sight of the eye • For speech: complete, total and irrecoverable loss of speech • For hearing: complete, total and irrecoverable loss of hearing • For thumb and index finger: complete and total severance at or above the knuckles • For quadriplegia: total paralysis of both arms and legs • For paraplegia: total paralysis of both arms or both legs • For hemiplegia: total paralysis of the arm and leg on the same side of the body. Paralysis means the total loss of use of an arm or leg. Severance means the complete and permanent separation and dismemberment of the part from the body.
