INTERDISCIPLINARY MINORS<br />
Candidates proceeding to their second year (or third semester, in respect <strong>of</strong> those admitted in or after<br />
2002-03) <strong>of</strong> study <strong>of</strong> the curriculum in or after the academic year 2001-02 may select courses from<br />
the lists specified in the syllabuses to satisfy the requirements for up to two interdisciplinary minors<br />
but shall not be permitted to take more than 12 credits from one department/programme to satisfy<br />
the requirements <strong>of</strong> one minor. <strong>The</strong> same course shall not be taken to fulfil the requirements for a<br />
major and a minor, or for two minors.<br />
<strong>The</strong> interdisciplinary minor programmes are as follows. Courses may have prerequisites; please<br />
refer to the syllabus <strong>of</strong> the relevant department/programme for the prerequisite(s).<br />
1. Histories and Cultures <strong>of</strong> the Asia-Pacific Region<br />
A minor in the histories and cultures <strong>of</strong> the Asia-Pacific region will provide you with a<br />
broad general knowledge about history and thought in the region <strong>of</strong> which <strong>Hong</strong> <strong>Kong</strong> is a<br />
part. This will be useful regardless <strong>of</strong> what you are studying as a major and can thus be<br />
recommended for all students in the Faculty <strong>of</strong> <strong>Arts</strong>.<br />

2. Contemporary China and <strong>Hong</strong> <strong>Kong</strong><br />
This minor gives students with a general interest in China and <strong>Hong</strong> <strong>Kong</strong> a better<br />
understanding <strong>of</strong> physical, cultural and human environments <strong>of</strong> the two societies within the<br />
larger global and regional settings. <strong>The</strong> courses <strong>of</strong>fered examine a range <strong>of</strong> contemporary<br />
development issues and future challenges faced by China and <strong>Hong</strong> <strong>Kong</strong> in an increasingly<br />
globalized world.<br />
