Student Services<br />

Student Services are administered by the Vice President for Student Services who, as the college’s chief student<br />

personnel administrator, reports to the President. The primary responsibilities are to provide services and programs<br />

that enhance the general education and development of students, enrich the quality of student life and support the<br />

teaching, and service mission of the <strong>College</strong>.<br />

The Vice President for Student Services provides primary leadership in formulating and administering policies and<br />

procedures regarding student life and to the rights and responsibilities that accompany student citizenship in the college<br />

community.<br />

Among the services administered by the Office of the Vice President for Student Services includes Admission<br />

Advisement, Admission and Records, Financial Aid, Public Information, Recruitment, Registration, Security and<br />

Student Activities/Organizations.<br />

Advising Services – General & Scholarships<br />

The Admission Advising Office is on the third floor of the Student Center. Advisors assist students in their admission<br />

to the <strong>College</strong> and in questions of residency and registration for a Texas Success Initiative approved test. Advisors also<br />

counsel students concerning dropping courses and withdrawing from school. They also help with the selection of courses,<br />

completion of schedules and registering for class.<br />

Scholarship information is coordinated by the advisors. Students interested in applying for scholarships should<br />

contact the advising office for application forms for local and institutional scholarships. The <strong>College</strong> reserves the right to<br />

require tests of any student if it appears that scores would be helpful in making the admission decision or would be<br />

beneficial for advising purposes.<br />

In addition to services provided through the centralized Advising Office, for additional program and course level<br />

assistance student should contact their individual Department Chairs for the appropriate faculty mentor in their major<br />

field of study.<br />

Bookstore<br />

For the convenience of faculty and students, Barnes & Noble operates a bookstore where supplies and books, new and<br />

used, may be purchased or upon availability, a variety of rental books are provided for some courses. Used books which<br />

currently are approved may be sold to the bookstore. Books which must be discontinued are not purchased by the<br />

bookstore except at wholesale price. The bookstore reserves the right to require a seller to prove ownership of books.<br />

Campus Security<br />

Community Service officers help protect students and visitors and their property as well as the college’s. They also<br />

provide escort service to vehicles upon request and maintain parking lot surveillance. Further, as notification, the<br />

<strong>College</strong> utilizes video and other forms of surveillance to aid in a more secure and safe operation. The campus also relies<br />

on the <strong>Port</strong> <strong>Arthur</strong> Police Department when in need.<br />

All on-campus emergencies should be reported to the Security Office by dialing 0. During evening hours contact the<br />

campus operator by dialing 0.<br />

Security is coordinated through the Vice President for Student Services office.<br />

My.<strong>Lamar</strong>pa.edu Account<br />

NOTE TO ALL STUDENTS: <strong>Lamar</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>College</strong>-<strong>Port</strong> <strong>Arthur</strong> will utilize your My.<strong>Lamar</strong>pa.edu email<br />

account as a primary point of contact as a service to you. It is imperative that you secure or get assistance<br />

with your password as soon as possible as the <strong>College</strong> will utilize this as its primary point of contact for<br />

important announcements and other communications. Your My.<strong>Lamar</strong>pa.edu account can be checked on<br />

any computer in the world and we also have computers available around campus for your use. You are<br />

strongly encouraged to log into your My.<strong>Lamar</strong>pa.edu account DAILY. If you need assistance with<br />
