Taking on the leadership of the PDCA Environmental<br />

Committee is a great honor for me.<br />

For 25 years I have been involved with construction<br />

equipment. The last 10 years have been in the deep foundation<br />

end of the industry – first with International Construction<br />

Equipment, then American <strong>Pile</strong>driving Equipment, then my<br />

own company F.S. Supply working with Junttan pile rigs. I personally<br />

have a background in environmental science and forestry.<br />

Environmental issues have always had sway on everything<br />

we do in construction, and how and when and what we do.<br />

It is imperative that we don’t lose the valuable progress<br />

that the Committee has made to this point under the leadership<br />

of John Linscott. We must complete the Noise and Vibration<br />

Database project. This information could affect the very future<br />

of the driven pile and would prove to be a great tool in deep<br />

foundation engineering. It would be a great contribution by,<br />

and credit to, the members of this organization. There is also an<br />

informational brochure that this committee has developed and<br />

that brochure needs to be promoted and distributed.<br />

We must also address the other important issues that relate<br />

to what we do here.<br />

Noise abatement, environmentally safe fuels and lubricants,<br />

and impacts on marine life are just a few of the many outstanding<br />

issues that impact our business every day and need to be<br />

addressed.<br />

I thank John and the members of this committee for the<br />

groundwork they have provided and I look forward to building<br />

on that groundwork through the direction of the activities of<br />

such a key committee. ◆<br />
