Hospice of Limes<strong>to</strong>ne County; Camp Hope<br />
ospice of Limes<strong>to</strong>ne County<br />
sponsored Camp Hope, a<br />
free, one day camp for chilren<br />
ages 5 <strong>to</strong> 15 years old, on<br />
uesday, June 5, 2012 at Camp<br />
elen Baptist campgrounds. This<br />
ear 54 campers attended Camp<br />
ope.<br />
he day consisted of many fun activities,<br />
which included a scavenger<br />
hunt, parachute play, art<br />
therapy, and s<strong>to</strong>rytime. Other special<br />
events provided by groups in<br />
the community included a robotics<br />
station by Limes<strong>to</strong>ne County Career<br />
Technical Robotics Team,<br />
water bombs provided by Pi Beta<br />
Sigma sorority, and clowning by<br />
the Cahaba Shriners. Campers<br />
enjoyed petting and reading books<br />
<strong>to</strong> their new, furry friends, specially<br />
trained therapy dogs, provided by<br />
Camp Hope was successful because of the<br />
awesome job of our teen “buddy” volunteers.<br />
The buddies’ jobs were <strong>to</strong> listen, share, talk,<br />
and PLAY ! PLAY !<br />
Love on a Leash Therapy. A delicious<br />
lunch was donated by various<br />
individuals and included<br />
grilled hamburgers and hot dogs,<br />
chips, and homemade cookies<br />
baked by special volunteers.<br />
Shaved ice was donated for the afternoon<br />
snacks.<br />
Camp Hope was successful because<br />
of the awesome job of our<br />
teen “buddy” volunteers. The buddies’<br />
jobs were <strong>to</strong> listen, share,<br />
talk, and PLAY ! PLAY ! PLAY!! with<br />
the campers at Camp Hope. The<br />
day ended with a Celebration of<br />
Life Service where families joined<br />
us for a balloon release. Al Burns<br />
led the service with singing by Sydney<br />
Randall. Campers <strong>to</strong>ok home<br />
a “feelings pillow,” donated by<br />
Athens Quilters’ Guild, <strong>to</strong> remind<br />
them of their special day and special<br />
friends while remembering<br />
their special person. It was such a<br />
rewarding and happy day for all!<br />
