SWOT ANALYSIS OF THE DISTRICT AND INDIVIDUAL SECTORS
SWOT ANALYSIS OF THE DISTRICT :
To identify the strength, weakness, opportunities and threats of districts a workshop was organized during
the plan preparation process and suggestions were taken from different stakeholders from different sectors. The
strategic planning workshops highlight the followings as SWOT in different sectors / sub sectors.
Strength
Fertile land and labour
Strength.
Weakness
The forest area is only 0.3
% where as it should be 33
% as per National forest
policy.
Opportunity
The area under cultivable
waste, permanent pasture,
land under miscellaneous
crops and grains, current
fallow and other fallow can
be brought under forest in
order to follow the
guidelines of National
Forest Policy.
Threat
Recurrence of Kosi flood
is its greatest threat for the
district The fertility of the
soil is affected by bringing
lot of sand over the soil
surface carried by flood
water.
Highest Productivity of rice,
Maize, Wheat among the
other neighboring district of
Madhepura, Saharsa,
Kishanganj and Araria.
Insufficient irrigational
facilities. In sufficient
number of service Centre
for the Supply of quality
seeds, fertilizer, pesticides
and agricultural implements.
Rate of replacement of
local varieties of crops
seeds can be increased by
arranging quality seeds from
the Govt, and private
agencies.
Shortage of food grains,
fragmentation of land and
soil is deficient in
micronutrient like Zinc.
Sufficient Water resources
(Under ground and
Surface).
Lack of infrastructural
facilities like electricity, road,
godown, cold storage, rural
markets.
The bamboo available in the
district can be used for
developing bamboo based
cottage industries.
Recurrent Kosi flood poses
threat to infrastructures
The number of industries
is very low.
The Processing units of
fruits, Vegetable, Milk and
other beverages can be
established in the district.
The number of marginal
farmers is increasing to
fragmentation of land on
account of growing
population and division in
the family.
Cattle Wealth is another
big strength of the district.
It has a total population of
Inadequate number of
improved breed of Cattle
Wealth.
Potential for development
of agro based industries
