And the net sown area is 146682 ha is being uses for growing crops. The gross area under cultivation is 254094 ha. enables the district to get a cropping intensity of 173. The major crops of rice, wheat and maize are giving estimated yield of 87944 tones, 90972 tones and 54189 tones respectively. The texture of soil of the district is sandy loam to sandy cloudy which forms the group of fertile soils. The total irrigated area is 38736 ha out of the gross cropped area of 188068.10 ha is about 20.59% area is such which The forest area is only 0.3 % where as is should be 33 % as per National forest policy.The number of industries is very low.Lack of infrastructural facilities like electricity, road, go-down, cold storage, rural markets. Poverty and unemployment. Insufficient irrigational facilities.Insufficient use of modern technique of agriculture.Inadequate number of improved breed of Cattle Wealth. Insufficient number of service Centre for the Supply of quality seeds, fertilizer, pesticides and agricultural implements. The area under cultivable waste, permanent pasture, land under miscellaneous crops and grains, current fallow and other fallow can be brought under forest in order to follow the guidelines of National Forest Policy.Rate of replacement of local varieties of crops seeds can be increased by arranging quality seeds from the Govt, and private agencies.The bamboo available in the district can be used for developing bamboo based cottage industries..The Processing units of fruits, Vegetable, Milk and other beverages can be established in the district.Potential for development of agro based Recurrence of Kosi flood is its greatest threat for the district The fertility of the soil is affected by bringing lot of sand over the soil surface.Shortage of food grains, fragmentation of land and soil is deficient in micronutrient like Zinc.Effect of increasing terrorist activities around the nearby areas.The number of marginal farmers is increasing ^to fragmentation of land on account of growing population and division in the family.

RURAL DEVELOPMENT : Vibrant rural economy is vital not only to eradicate poverty but to induce economic growth. Furthermore, poverty eradication is the foundation for regional peace and security and quality of life for all. The public and private sectors must work together coherently and efficiently to translate their commitment to rural development into policies, action and investments that improves the daily lives of the rural poor and enhances their power to chart and lead their own development in the future. Irrigation Development not only correlates to agriculture but also to other Socio Economic aspects like industry, hydropower, pisciculture, water supply etc.
