The school serves 504 students and offers the following degrees: Bachelor of Science<br />

in Engineering, Bachelor of Science with concentrations in Industrial Management and<br />

Technical Communication, Master of Science in Engineering, and Master of Science with<br />

majors in Software Systems, Technical Communication Management, Technical<br />

Management, and Environmental Systems. Programs are offered on the Macon campus,<br />

through the Warner Robins Air Force Base, and through distance education.<br />

Tift College of Education (Macon, <strong>Atlanta</strong>, Savannah, Regional Academic<br />

Centers)<br />

Dedicated to preparing outstanding educators for the 21st century, the College of<br />

Education offers strong programs in a variety of fields to meet the needs of diverse students<br />

in the teacher education community.<br />

The college serves 1,457 students. Degrees offered include the Bachelor of Science<br />

in Education, Master of Education, Master of Arts in Teaching, Specialist in Education,<br />

and Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Curriculum and Instruction. The college also<br />

offers initial teacher certification at the undergraduate and graduate level.<br />

Majors include Teacher Education in The Holistic Child: Early Childhood and<br />

Interrelated (with ESOL option), and Middle Grades Education. In addition to these<br />

majors, the College of Education, in conjunction with the College of Liberal Arts, offers<br />

certification programs in secondary education (7-12) and special subjects (P-12) for students<br />

enrolled in the College of Liberal Arts.<br />

Undergraduate programs are offered on the Macon and <strong>Atlanta</strong> campuses, as well as<br />

the off-campus centers in Douglas County, Eastman, and Henry County. Graduate programs<br />

are offered on the Macon, <strong>Atlanta</strong>, and Savannah campuses, and at the Henry<br />

County and Douglas County Centers.<br />

Walter F. George School of Law (Macon)<br />

The Walter F. George School of Law offers a legal education that effectively integrates<br />

knowledge with practice, and emphasizes professionalism and the every day skills used<br />

by today's lawyers.<br />

Currently serving 449 students, the school offers the Juris Doctor degree.<br />

The Woodruff Curriculum, <strong>Mercer</strong>'s model curriculum, focuses on ethics and practical<br />

skills. It was honored with the Gambrell Professionalism Award from the American Bar<br />

Association for its "depth and excellence" and "obvious commitment to professionalism."<br />

The school's unique and innovative Legal Writing Program is consistently ranked<br />

among the top in the nation.<br />

Townsend School of Music (Macon)<br />

At the April 2006 meeting of the <strong>Mercer</strong> Board of Trustees, then President Godsey<br />

announced a major gift from Carolyn Townsend McAfee and J. Thomas and Julie Crangle<br />

McAfee to endow a new School of Music. The action was approved unanimously by the<br />

Board.<br />

The Townsend School of Music became effective July 1, 2006. A department of music<br />

was previously housed within the College of Liberal Arts. The school, which has 97 students,<br />

offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs.<br />

College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (<strong>Atlanta</strong>)<br />

The mission of the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences is to prepare its graduates<br />

to provide pharmaceutical care and thereby assure the safe and effective use of<br />

medications for the benefit of the patient and society. The college provides an environment<br />

in which students can actively participate to gain knowledge of pharmaceuticals and<br />
