acquired after the first week, these vehicles must be registered at once with the <strong>Mercer</strong><br />

Police Department. Operating an unregistered motor vehicle (automobile, motorcycle,<br />

scooter, etc.) on <strong>University</strong> property will subject the operator to a penalty.<br />

New permits are issued annually, in the fall. The parking decal should be placed on<br />

the lower corner of the driver’s-side front window.<br />

Any person requiring use of the parking spaces reserved for the handicapped should<br />

obtain a permit issued by the State of Georgia, as required by law.<br />

<strong>Mercer</strong> <strong>University</strong> assumes no responsibility for the care or protection of any vehicle<br />

or its contents while it is parked on <strong>University</strong> grounds. KEEP YOUR VEHICLES<br />

LOCKED.<br />

Penalties<br />

Violators of the following traffic regulations are subject to the designated penalties.<br />

Using a Not Valid Parking Place<br />

Other<br />

Vehicles are banned from campus after receiving 5 tickets.<br />

There are several tow-away zones on campus; these include loading zones, handicap<br />

parking spaces, trash pick-up zones, and fire lanes. The <strong>University</strong> enforces the rules for<br />

these areas, and violators must pay all fines or tow charges. DO NOT PARK IN TOW-<br />

AWAY ZONES, even for a few minutes.<br />

Recipients of tickets for violation of traffic regulations will be allowed five (5) days from<br />

the date of the ticket (not including weekends and official <strong>University</strong> holidays) to pay fines<br />

or to file an appeal. After that time, the amount of the fine, plus an additional $2.00 for failure<br />

to pay the ticket, will be charged against the owner of the vehicle involved.<br />

TRANSCRIPTS WILL NOT BE RELEASED, AND ALL UNIVERSITY SERVICES<br />

WILL BE WITHHELD FOR UNPAID FINES OR UNANSWERED SUMMONSES. Flagrant<br />

violations of regulations may result in dismissal from the <strong>University</strong>.<br />

Traffic Citation Appeal Procedure<br />

Students, faculty, and staff of <strong>Mercer</strong> <strong>University</strong> in <strong>Atlanta</strong> may appeal traffic citations<br />

in the following way:<br />

1. Appeals must be made in writing upon a standardized form within 5 days of the<br />

date of the traffic citation.<br />

2. Appeal forms may be obtained in the Police Department.<br />

3. Completed forms must be received by the Traffic Appeals Committee within the 5-<br />

day period allotted. The forms may be mailed to: <strong>Mercer</strong> <strong>University</strong>, 3001 <strong>Mercer</strong><br />

<strong>University</strong> Drive, <strong>Atlanta</strong>, GA 30341, ATTN: Traffic Appeals Committee.<br />
