Youth & Teen Arts & Crafts and Cooking 18 Friend us on facebook Kid’s Clay Class WEB Ages: 5-12 years Content: In this class kids will learn the basics of hand building techniques in clay by creating a minimum of two projects. We will experiment with carving and sculpting the clay and on the last day, paint your project with many colors and a clear glaze. This class is taught by a working studio ceramic artist. Participants must pick up their projects a week later at the Perinton Community Center. Spend three fun evenings with your young person and learn how to knit together. The classes will move at a nice relaxed pace as we learn how to cast-on, knit and cast-off. Parent and Child Clay Class Ages: 5-12 years Content: Come work as a team and make a clay box, vase or bowl using hand building techniques, such as coiling, slab and pinching. Create texture on the surface of your work with carvings and stamps. Create a relief, add feet or a lid to your piece. The following week, you will decorate your work with many colors and a choice of clear, blue, tan or turquoise glaze. This class is taught by a working studio ceramic artist. The Art of Drawing Horses & Animals WEB 7-12 years In this sequel to a Fairport favorite, we explore animals in movement. Learn traditional techniques of drawing while using new media, like Copic and acrylic markers. All materials will be provided along with lots of fun and a nutritious snack. Teen Center Lions Den Teen Center Programs Register early to avoid program cancellation due to low enrollment. Lions Den Teen Center Programs Limited to Fairport/Perinton Teens Are you a teenager looking for a fun, safe place to hang out with your friends The Teen Center is a home away from home for all Fairport/ Perinton teens. Check out our new programs and special events. We’d love to see you there. This is an adult-supervised, teen-oriented program. Pre-registration is required at Perinton Recreation and Parks. Youth programs funded in part by a reimbursement from the New York State Office of Children & Family Services through the Rochester/ Monroe County Youth Bureau. Army Adoption Committee The Teen Center sends care packages and cards to soldiers and their platoons stationed overseas on a regular basis. We want our adopted troops to know how much we appreciate the sacrifices that they are making for our country. If you are interested in helping with the mailing costs for this project, bottles and cans can be taken to the EZ Bottle and Can Return, which is located at 1259 Fairport Road, and ask that the return be designated to the Lions Den Teen Center account, or contact Julie Eble at lionsdentc@gmail.com for more information. Lions Den Teen Center Advisory Board Perinton Recreation and Parks has established a Teen Advisory Board (TAB). Junior TAB is for grades 6-9. Senior TAB is for grades 10-12. There is also a Parent/Community Member Advisory Board (PCAB). PCAB works with TAB to make the Lions Den Teen Center a safe place where respect, honesty and responsibility are core values. We will continue to empower our teens by allowing them to implement programs and activities of their choice. Also, we will continue to foster healthy choices and healthy lifestyles, and will ensure that the Lions Den Teen Center remains a Drug Free/Alcohol Free/Violence Free Zone. Community Service Hours The Teen Center and the Perinton Community Center are always looking for teens interested in community service hours. If you would like to volunteer for special events at the Perinton Community Center like the Egg Hunt, Teen Spring Park Clean up and/or others, please contact Julie Eble to have your name and email address added to the community service volunteer list. Saturday Activity Night Program Grades: 6-9 (entering in Fall 2013) Content: The Teen Center is open on Saturday evenings for teens to enjoy Nintendo Wii, Just Dance, pool, ping pong, foosball, watching movies and doing fun activities with their friends.
