LIMPOPO CONSTRUCTION CONTACT CENTRE OPEN AT HEAD OFFICE Bringing services closer to the people Provides clients, with a one stop Construction support service By : Rosemary Mahapa CIDB Construction Contact Centres (CCC) are facilities created by the cidb in partnership with Departments of Public Works at national and provincial level to support contractors and construction industry development. The range of services available at Limpopo CCC includes: CIDB contractor registration. In terms of regulations public sector clients may only award tenders to contractors that are registered with the cidb on the Register of Contractors. Business and contractor development information and advice services. Information and knowledge resources on construction skills, best practices, construction methods and technologies. As a construction hub in the province, the CCC also facilitate business-to-business linkages and offer marketing and partnership opportunities to construction companies. These include partnerships on training, contractor development programs and other industry development initiatives. The CCC receives and processes applications for contractor registration and upgrades thereby facilitating better contractor and stakeholder access to cidb services in the provinces. Grade 1 Contractors are registered over the counter and activated within 48 hours. 11 Limpopo CCC also Facilitates improved communication between the cidb, contractors and clients departments. For the first time contractors are able to track the status and progress of their applications locally. Inevitably this will speed up the processing of applications and contribute to an easier and much more user friendly registration process. The CCC will also facilitate implementation of the National Contractor Development Programme (NCDP) aimed at growing the industry’s contracting and contractor capacity for improved infrastructure delivery. Championed by the cidb and the Department of Public Works, NCDP aims to streamline contractor development initiatives by various stakeholders to promote contractor sustainability for growth, empowerment, skills development and best practice. It is also intended to promote better access to finance for contractors. Among development programmes that the CCC will facilitate, is training of contractors on critical skills such as understanding and managing various construction contracts, including GCC and JBCC which are recommended by the cidb. The centre will also provide information about contractor development programmes and opportunities offered by various stakeholders. Limpopo CCC has four permanent staff members operating from the provincial Department of Public Works offices in Ladanna, Polokwane.
