Christmas Party<br />

This years christ mas party was held on the 22nd of December, twighlight nippers was held<br />

before Santa arrived on the back of the new 4X4 Quad bike with si rens blazing. Santa handed<br />

out a treat to each nipper and afterwards the magician had everyone enthralled (includi ng all<br />

the parents)with a terrific show of fire eating and tricks. The sausages sizzled and everyone<br />

had a great time. A special th ank you to Clarkey for once again ensu ri ng Santa arrived safely.<br />

Club Presentation Day<br />

Presentation day was on the 9 th of March and was a great success and with over 200<br />

presentations it was a big day. The list below has the winners of the handicap results and club<br />

championship. All other chjldren that parti cipated also received an award.<br />

Carnivals<br />

The first branch carniva l of the season at Qucenscliff saw the bi ggest conti ngent of nippers<br />

from <strong>Long</strong> <strong>Reef</strong> with a swag of great results. The entire under 8s group parti ci pated<br />

accounti ng for 38 of the 66 entries. Strong showings had many white and blue caps in the<br />

finals, the under 8 girls nag final had five <strong>Long</strong>y Nippers in it, more than any other club. The<br />

under 12 girls relay team also finished 3 rd .<br />

At the second carnival at Manly towards the end of January the numbers were down due to<br />

the school holidays, however with 38 entries <strong>Long</strong> <strong>Reef</strong> was well represented once again.<br />

<strong>Long</strong> <strong>Reef</strong> Nippers were in many fina ls and wi ll benefit from the experience gai ned from<br />

competition at this level. Sophie Hardcastle won the first nipper branch medal in the under 8<br />

flags, coming 3 m and made it into three fina ls in both call1i vals. Our strong showing took<br />

many by surprise, including the kids themselves. Hopefully next year we can continue to<br />

participate in branch carnivals in greater numbers and still maintain the <strong>Long</strong> <strong>Reef</strong> relaxed<br />

attitude to competition. The si deshow sl ide and Johnny Bravo give aways on the promenade<br />

will make it a day to remember for most of the nippers who attended.<br />

Many thanks to Phil Reeves who did a great job again this year for his weekly input as the<br />

organi ser of the handicap and championship pointscores. Phil's carnival assistance, ordering<br />

and presentation of the annual awards.<br />

Both days had fa ntastic weather and perfect surf conditions for kids. The age group managers<br />

for each group were terrific, assist ing each child for their event and location, thanks everyone.<br />

My special lh anks to Neil Ainsworth and Will Hardcastl e for their great effo rts in setting up<br />

the beach and organiSing the carnival days.<br />

We will continue to enter in to 2 branch carnivals per season in December and Jan uary. We<br />

will need to lodge the entries early and request confirmation of ent ries from the beginning of<br />

the season.
