Club Presentation Day
Presentation day was on the 9 th of March and was a great success and with over 200
presentations it was a big day. The list below has the winners of the handicap results and club
championship. All other chjldren that parti cipated also received an award.
Carnivals
The first branch carniva l of the season at Qucenscliff saw the bi ggest conti ngent of nippers
from Long Reef with a swag of great results. The entire under 8s group parti ci pated
accounti ng for 38 of the 66 entries. Strong showings had many white and blue caps in the
finals, the under 8 girls nag final had five Longy Nippers in it, more than any other club. The
under 12 girls relay team also finished 3 rd .
At the second carnival at Manly towards the end of January the numbers were down due to
the school holidays, however with 38 entries Long Reef was well represented once again.
Long Reef Nippers were in many fina ls and wi ll benefit from the experience gai ned from
competition at this level. Sophie Hardcastle won the first nipper branch medal in the under 8
flags, coming 3 m and made it into three fina ls in both call1i vals. Our strong showing took
many by surprise, including the kids themselves. Hopefully next year we can continue to
participate in branch carnivals in greater numbers and still maintain the Long Reef relaxed
attitude to competition. The si deshow sl ide and Johnny Bravo give aways on the promenade
will make it a day to remember for most of the nippers who attended.
Many thanks to Phil Reeves who did a great job again this year for his weekly input as the
organi ser of the handicap and championship pointscores. Phil's carnival assistance, ordering
and presentation of the annual awards.
Both days had fa ntastic weather and perfect surf conditions for kids. The age group managers
for each group were terrific, assist ing each child for their event and location, thanks everyone.
My special lh anks to Neil Ainsworth and Will Hardcastl e for their great effo rts in setting up
the beach and organiSing the carnival days.
We will continue to enter in to 2 branch carnivals per season in December and Jan uary. We
will need to lodge the entries early and request confirmation of ent ries from the beginning of
the season.
