2011 Board of Directors On Jan. 27, the 2011 DSA Board of Directors was sworn in during a lunchtime installation ceremony. In the election, the three incumbent directors were all re-elected, so the board would have remained the same in the coming year; however, Ernie Carrillo resigned shortly before the installation, leaving a year left on his term. The person with the next highest number of votes in the most recent election was Dave DiCarlo who stepped up to fill the vacated seat. Dave DiCarlo Dave has been with the Sheriff’s Department since the 2000 merger with the Marshal’s Office, having spent almost 13 years with the marshals. When applying for a position in law enforcement, he was waiting to be hired by the Sheriff’s Department, which he had previously interned with while obtaining his associate’s degree, when the marshal’s job arose first. Dave’s assignments included Warrant Investigations, Field Deputy, Field and Court Training Officer, Firearms Instructor, Bailiff, SRT Team, and Extraditions. He had been assigned to the Fugitive Unit for three years at the time of the merger. Since coming on board the department, Dave has worked as a training officer in the court services bureau. In 2003, he transferred to Kearny Mesa Field as a corporal. In 2005, he was assigned to Encinitas patrol. Having been with COPPS Encinitas for the past three years, he is currently a corporal with the unit Dave holds an associate’s degree in evidence technology, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice, and a master’s in forensic science. When asked why he ran for the board, he replied, “I have been a station representative for the past three years and felt I could accomplish more for our association with a voice on the board.” He goes on to say, “I understand the everyday workings and issues faced by our members. My goals are to strive to obtain the best possible pay and benefits for each member and to help make sure our association’s interests are represented fairly.” Sheriff Bill Gore and Undersheriff Jim Cooke with the 2011 DSA Board of Directors While Dave has a busy few months ahead of him, as he begins the necessary training every director undergoes, he is ready to hit the ground running.
