FELT WITH KAREN SELK
One day class with visiting Canadian
textile artist, Karen Selk
Karen Selk from Salt Spring Island, BC, Canada has been a textile
and fusing felt with silk. Karen has travelled widely through Asia
researching silk and is the author of numerous articles. She travels
worldwide, sharing her experience and knowledge through lectures
and workshops, and has also organised and led textile and cultural
tours to India, Bhutan and Laos.
Karen was a founder and managing director of Treenway Silks for 30
years.
Karen is a keynote speaker at the 2012 Creative Fibre Festival,
Blenheim, 26-29 April.
Thursday April 19th, 9 - 4 at Ashford Craft Shop
Numbers limited. Cost $35
What ever you call it, silk fusion is exciting and beautiful. A spectrum
of unspun silk fibres will be arranged and fused with textile adhesive
to produce a “felt” of varying thicknesses. Silk fused fibres can be
crinkled while wet and hold its shape. Other fibres, feathers and
ribbons can be incorporated into the silk fusion. It becomes a perfect
canvas for machine or hand stitching, quilting, three dimensional
sculptures, jewellery, wearable art, book coverings, collage and on and
on. We will make a number of pieces to be taken home to dry.
