Communications by the President<br />
The President welcomed student members <strong>to</strong> the seventh Jersey Youth <strong>Assembly</strong> as well as Mrs. Cheryl Gillan,<br />
Treasurer of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) and Member of Parliament for Chesham and<br />
Amersham, and Mr. Andrew Tuggey, Secretary of the U.K. Branch of the CPA and Regional CPA Secretary.<br />
QUESTIONS<br />
Hamish Maclachlan of Vic<strong>to</strong>ria College asked the follow<strong>in</strong>g question of the President of the Home Affairs<br />
Committee –<br />
Would the President please <strong>in</strong>form the <strong>Assembly</strong> how the Home Affairs Committee envis<strong>age</strong>s the relationship<br />
between the Honorary and <strong>States</strong> of Jersey Police will develop over the next five years<br />
The President of the Home Affairs Committee replied <strong>in</strong> the follow<strong>in</strong>g terms –<br />
The President envis<strong>age</strong>s that the relationship between the Honorary and <strong>States</strong> Police will develop <strong>in</strong> a more<br />
formal and accountable structure, which makes it clear what the public are entitled <strong>to</strong> expect from both<br />
organisations. Indeed one such formal document has been drawn up already follow<strong>in</strong>g extensive consultation<br />
between the <strong>States</strong> Police, the Honorary Police and the Comité des Connétables. This is a Memorandum of<br />
Understand<strong>in</strong>g which sets out agreed guidel<strong>in</strong>es <strong>to</strong> be followed when a member of the public calls the Police
