16 WholesaleManager FACTORY SAVED FROM FIRE Fireray 5000 Beam Detector saves factory from Acetone blaze Acetone in a production area of a factory in west Hull caught fire on 16th April, however no-one was injured and the building escaped intact. A recently-installed Fireray 5000 optical beam smoke detector sounded the alarm at 8.45am, when the area had been temporarily unmanned. When workers had left there had been nothing wrong, but the Fireray detector kept watch and quickly spotted the rising smoke. The alarm signal was picked up by the 24-hour manned security lodge, who called the fire brigade. Ten fire engines from the Humberside Fire and Rescue Service arrived within 5 minutes and quickly subdued the blaze; all staff were evacuated without incident. It is thought that the quick reaction to the fire starting is what saved the building, with the rapidity of the alarm and then the firefighters’ response SUCCESS FOR THERMO KING Thermo King’s SLX and Technical Transport Products a great success Since the successful launch of the SLX range by Thermo King, Technical Transport Products (TTP), Thermo King’s dealer in Northern Ireland, decided to put a demo trailer on the road in order to allow customers to trial the products for a period of time. The demo trailer was fitted out with an SLX 300 50 unit and has been spotted on the road, by eagle eyed customers, throughout Ireland, UK and Europe. The demo trailer also featured a variety of accessories including: • Thermo King Tracking • Remote Status Light • Electronic Door Switch • 230 Litre Polyethylene Fuel Tank • Fuel Sensor The trial of the demo trailer and unit is still ongoing and TTP believe that it has been an extremely successful venture. Once a customer takes possession of the trailer, the TTP team minimising the scale and severity of the blaze before it could get out of control. The fire protection system installer for the building, Tim Allerston of Global EFP Ltd., said that they had recently upgraded the beam detectors from 15 year old ones, which had become unreliable and prone to false alarms and fault conditions. The new detectors performed to perfection, quickly detecting the fire and triggering the alarm - resulting in the building, and potentially lives, being saved. The Fireray 5000, manufactured by Fire Fighting Enterprises Ltd., is an advanced optical beam smoke detector. Suitable for wide-area fire protection, it uses a beam of reflected infrared (IR) light to detect interference from smoke particles across a wide area (up to 100m in length). Recent technological developments by the company have made the product then schedules a visit to give the user an information pack and go through the various features of the unit and accessories. The customer is also allocated a temporary password to track his vehicle using the innovative TK TracKing system. The TTP team also outline the mapping capabilities, reporting, fuel monitoring and alarm notification available as part of the TracKing system. Once the trial period is over the customer is revisited and fills out a questionnaire. To date the results of the questionnaire have been extremely encouraging for the new product. Some of the comments received from the operators and drivers have included: • They liked the sleek appearance of the SLX • Good, easy to use, good pull down • Liked the noise level and the SR2 controller is easy to use more effective than ever: an automatic, motorised beam head compensation system keeps the beam working as efficiently as possible at all times, even when subject to minor building shift and dust buildup on the lens. Established in 1997, Freshlinc Distribution will fit the new units to Gray and Adams trailers, which have been leased through Grays Rentals, to be used on UK routes delivering a range of chilled produce to supermarkets. New Concept Easilift Double Deck Scissor Lift Dock Pod provides a speedy loading/unloading solution for the TIC Group. A new double deck scissor lift modular dock pod designed, manufactured and installed by Easilift Loading Systems Ltd - the UK’s leading suppler of total loading bay solutions - has significantly increased loading/unloading efficiency for the TIC Retail Accessories Group. The TIC Group is a major international business providing retailers and vendors with a range of innovative and world class services to manage the movement of merchandise backwards through the supply chain. Often referred to as ‘reverse logistics’, the types of goods that are brought back include high-volume, reusable retail accessories such as coat hangers and security tags. TIC Retail Accessories pioneered the concept of hanger re-use, which is now becoming increasingly accepted internationally, particularly by more enlightened retailers, because of the financial and environmental considerations.
