NZIFST NZIFST Professional Development: 2009 Programme We are delighted to announce the NZIFST Professional Development Programme for 2009. Your Institute has always aimed to provide a platform for career and professional development for members, this year is the first time that a programme of highly directed and worthwhile seminars and workshops has been developed. We are looking forward to a successful year, which will be the blueprint for a continuing programme. We have used member responses to the professional development survey in planning, and were encouraged by the strong positive response to the proposed project. Our challenge is to translate that high level of interest into professionally valuable and cost-effective events. The programme below is the result of much consultation and some midnight oil. We hope you take full advantage of these opportunities to enhance your professional development and we welcome any suggestions for improving the programme. An overview of best practice for managing the NPD process including, portfolio management, project and risk management and how to get the best out of the multi-disciplinary, NPD team. This course is designed to up skill technical and NPD personnel in the practices and management of sensory evaluation in a fast moving industrial setting. It will include statistical interpretation of data and training and screening of panel members. The course will be practically based with exercises and workshops. An update from relevant authorities about the latest changes to food legislation affecting the food industry, e.g. labelling, importing and exporting, biosecurity, food control plans, etc An overview for food technologists without an engineering background, who now feel an understanding of some basic food engineering principles which would add value to their role. A quick refresher course about common pathogens & spoilage organisms and techniques used to protect food products from the growth of microorganisms. An update for food technologists on nutrition principles with a key focus on current hot topics. An update from relevant authorities about the latest changes to food legislation affecting the food industry, e.g. labelling, importing & exporting, biosecurity, food control plans, etc 5 x 1 hour presentations from a range of packaging suppliers discussing the many technical aspects of food packaging which food technologists need to know when assessing the options. Each event will be actively publicised to ensure your awareness and, where interest lies, attendance. The price of each of the activities is set at a level recognising the intensity and value of the content. The first NPD seminar will cost $850+GST for members ($930+GST for non-members). The remaining 2 day courses will be priced at a similar level. The one day seminars will be about $530+GST for members ($580+GST for non-members). The 2hr morning seminars have yet to be costed - we will advise on the cost for these sessions closer to the time. For a few of the seminars there is still some flexibility with regard to provider, location and timing. These will also be firmed up nearer the time. 28 Food New Zealand
