New technology on show
New packaging and technology from Cryovac
and Foss was unveiled at the trade show at last
year’s MIA Dunedin conference.
Cryovac has two new packaging products for New Zealand’s
meat processors. BXGuard is a new generation, super tough and
shrinkable Barrier Bag that has excellent shrink and premium
optics. The company claims it delivers the best in functionality
and optimum appearance for both retail and industrial applications.
The barrier bag is ideal for bone-in retail applications
without the requirement for any
additional bone protection. The
bag is suitable for a wide range of
meat products - such as bone-in
lamb, leg hams, pork loins, beef
shortloins and case-ready retail
cuts. It comes in a variety of formats
suited to individual customer
needs. It can be flex printed in up
to eight colours, stamped or plain,
and can be stacked and taped. The
seal format can be straight, curved
or vee. Available tubing widths
range from 250mm to 425mm.

tough barrier bags
Cryovac also has new vacuum
packs to keep meat bright red,
which it says are the ideal combination
of vacuum and modified air
packaging (MAP). Darfresh Bloom is second skin packaging
with a breathable film that allows oxygen to reach the entire
top surface of the meat to maintain maximum customer appeal.
Other benefits include the ability to display products vertically
- without drip - ongoing meat maturation, total pack integrity
with easy opening, flexible or semi-rigid trays and many printing
possibilities on the lid and bottom. It can

to optimise the use of valuable raw materials while consistently
matching customer expectations. This consists of a precalibrated
near-infrared scanning device and a process control
system. Working on the same principle as FoodScan, the new
system continuously scans the surface of ground meat as it
flows through production, giving a constant stream of real time
results, the company says.
