The College of Southern Nevada houses a wealth of improvisation,<br />

theory and jazz choir exercises. Musicians from top jazz<br />

bands and Las Vegas shows play side-by-side with instrumentalists<br />

and vocalists of all skill levels.<br />

One of the nation’s longest running jazz workshops, Jazz Port<br />

Townsend is open to and appropriate for musicians high-school<br />

aged and above. Participants receive daily individual and<br />

small-group coaching from world-class faculty/artists. Big band<br />

groups, master classes and theory are covered.<br />

Colorado University Summer Jazz Academy<br />

During this one-week session, students are placed in jazz combo<br />

settings, and each student will also be divided up into one of many<br />

improvisation classes. Students will also participate in master<br />

classes and seminar sessions with a renowned guest artist.<br />

Faculty: CU faculty members and graduate students in the CU<br />

College of Music.<br />

Dialogue Middle School Summer Camp<br />

This instrumental educational experience includes three<br />

big bands, six levels of jazz theory and improvisation,<br />

listening sessions and faculty concerts. The program<br />

is limited to 50 campers and 20 staff members.<br />

jazz choird, 12 levels of jazz theory and improvisation, instrument<br />

master classes, combos and vocal solos and listening sessions.<br />

Evening faculty concerts feature such guests as Greg Gisbert, the<br />

Bob Curnow Big Band, Benny Green and more.<br />

Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival<br />

The FSAF consists of two weeks of study and performance<br />

opportunities, including workshops in music, visual arts, literary<br />

arts, theatre arts, culinary arts, dance and healing arts with<br />

dozens of performances.<br />

Jazz phrasing, performance skills, sight-reading and one-onone<br />

instruction are key focal points of the Great Basin repertory.<br />

Students also have the opportunity to play in a range of groups,<br />

from big bands to combos.<br />
