Jazz Institute faculty is committed<br />

to teaching jazz in a hands-on, fun and<br />

all-inclusive way. Students will build such<br />

skills as listening, critical thinking, communication<br />

and teamwork. This camp is<br />

unique because students learn the music<br />

of Charles Mingus and Dizzy Gillespie<br />

without sheet music.<br />

Hur, these weeklong Jazz, Brazilian and<br />

Afro-Cuban instrumental & vocal workshops<br />

in spectacular oceanfront locations.<br />

Hobbyist, students and pros are invited<br />

to participate in this all-levels-welcome<br />

camp, which offers ensembles, big band,<br />

clinics, private lessons, student and<br />

faculty concerts, and jams. A maximum<br />

enrollment of 36 assures personalized<br />

attention.<br />

Percussion Seminar<br />

Designed for advanced high-school<br />

percussionists, conservatory hopefuls<br />

will spend two intensive weeks at Lincoln<br />

Center, pursuing hands-on study of<br />

all major percussion instruments (twoand<br />

four-mallet keyboard, snare drum,<br />

timpani and orchestral accessories).<br />

Students are also introduced to world<br />

hand drums, percussion chamber music<br />

and both multi- and solo-percussion<br />

repertoire through challenging master<br />

classes, clinics, lectures, rehearsals and<br />

performances.<br />

This four-day workshop is open to female<br />

jazz pianists ages 18 to 35 and provides<br />

instruction, insight and tools rooted in the<br />

foundations of jazz, swing and harmony.<br />

The workshop culminates in a public performance<br />

the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage<br />
