The University of Nebraska at Omaha’s<br />

Jazz Workshop Summer Camp is intended<br />

for students and band directors<br />

from middle school through college, as<br />

well as adults. Featuring the Jim Widner<br />

Big Band in nightly concerts, students<br />

take classes in improvisation, jazz theory,<br />

jazz history, big band and combos.<br />

Instrumental and vocal jazz is taught at<br />

this weeklong camp for students of all<br />

levels ages 14 and up. The instrumental<br />

track emphasizes the development of<br />

jazz improvisation, style and composition<br />

skills, while the vocal track focuses on<br />

developing skills in jazz style, rhythm and<br />

scat singing.<br />

The camp strives to help students<br />

develop the knowledge, practice and appreciate<br />

of music in a nurturing musical<br />

environment. Instruction includes ensemble,<br />

sectional, solo opportunities and<br />

optional private lessons led by instructors<br />

and clinicians including Western Illinois<br />

University School of Music faculty, in addition<br />

to jazz educators from throughout<br />

the United States.<br />
