The Vision
“Langford will be a national model of a sustainable,
resilient and energy-secure community”
The Vision is supported by 6 key goals:
1. Develop complete, compact, healthy neighbourhoods.
2. Provide residents a diversity of transportation choices.
3. Improve the efficiency of buildings and infrastructure.
4. Develop flexible renewable energy systems to replace the use of fossil fuels.
5. Create new employment and business opportunities in a vibrant green economy.
6. Achieve emissions reductions that support BC’s Province-wide targets.
Plan Development
The development of Langford’s Community Energy and Emissions Reduction Strategy has been supported by
two key funders: The BC Ministry of Community and Rural Development and BC Hydro. In addition to
funding assistance, these organizations have devoted significant expertise and guidance to ensure that this
project serves as a valuable model for future work in other communities.

On September 26,
2007, the City of Langford
signed the
Climate Action
Charter
June 16 th , 2008, Langford’s
award-winning sustainabilityfocused
Official Community
Plan (OCP) was adopted by
Council.
November 3 rd , 2008,
Council directed staff
to proceed with the
CEERS project.
