Kopichat
A total of 100 members turned up for the
Kopichat session on Wednesday 6 February
at the Ficus Room.
The evening started at 6.30pm with a light
dinner. At about 7.30pm, our Club President
Bobby Wee welcomed and thanked everyone
for joining the session, which was meant as a discussion forum to update members on
matters surrounding the Club. Bobby then proceeded to introduce our Club GM Farrock
Ebrahim as well as newly co-opted GC Member and F&B Chairman, Peter See. Peter had
been serving in the F&B Committee for the past one year and now takes over chairmanship
duties from Joseph Lim, who is on leave due to medical reasons.
Bobby then proceeded to introduce the evening’s panel of speakers, which included KC
Foong (Chairman of the Task Force in charge of the FLM-M.O.M Inquiry) and Peter See
(Chairman of F&B). Topics included updates on the FLM-MOM inquiry, updates on the
court case facing the Club, as well as the outsourcing of the Club’s F&B operations to an
external caterer.
Throughout the session, members were very supportive of the Club’s efforts, in particular
regarding the outsourcing of the F&B operations. Whilst thankful for the support, Peter
continued to assure members that the Management will still monitor the F&B menu,
promotions and events closely to ensure members continue to enjoy good variety and
value for money, and that there should not be any price changes at least for this year,
and that any price increases cannot be implemented without the approval of the General
Committee and Management. Regarding a member’s query on the minimum spending
levy, Bobby explained that the levy is not meant to reimburse the caterer or limited only
to F&B spending, but more so a token amount meant to encourage members to come and
spend at the Club.
The session also bore fruit for more constructive suggestions from members, which the
Committee assured will be considered by the Management in its future action plans. One
delightful moment was when Ahola Kari Antero, who has been a member for 13 years,
called for more members to bring their children and grandchildren to play golf here, so
that we get new generations of Mardan Mamats from JCC.
Bobby also shared with members now that the golf course renovation is complete, the
Club is looking to move forward and improve more areas of the club to open up more
channels for income generation. As such, a new task force headed by KC Foong will be
set up to look into the Club’s space utilisation. To this end, former Treasurer Simon Tan
stood to complement the Committee and Management for moving forward and keeping
an eye on tomorrow with plans such as revenue generating and space utilisation, instead
of fire-fighting like in the past. Simon further hoped to see more goal setting for the next
three to five years.
In closing, Bobby shared that a recent course survey by Asian Golf Monthly Magazine has
voted JCC as the Third Best Course Renovation in Asia Pacific, which is very heartening
news. In the words of our Club President, “It is a mark that we have done well”.
