ELEMENTARY SCHOOL INFORMATION<br />

KINDERGARTEN PROGRAMS<br />

Half-Day Kindergarten Program<br />

<strong>USD</strong> <strong>231</strong> off ers a traditional half-day kindergarten,<br />

either morning or afternoon sessions (as assigned by<br />

the district).<br />

Extended-Day Kindergarten Program<br />

If additional childcare is needed for the remainder of<br />

the day, the parent may contract with the Johnson<br />

County Parks and Recre<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>District</strong> (JCPRD) to<br />

enroll their child in an extended-day kindergarten<br />

enrichment program. Contact Lisa Hughes <strong>at</strong> 856-<br />

7925 for more inform<strong>at</strong>ion. Some priv<strong>at</strong>e day care<br />

providers in the area also off er similar services.<br />

All-Day Pay Kindergarten Program<br />

All-Day Pay Kindergarten is available <strong>at</strong> all elementary<br />

buildings. Parents will be required to pay for<br />

one-half of the school day, <strong>at</strong> a r<strong>at</strong>e comparable to<br />

child care. For more inform<strong>at</strong>ion, call the school<br />

where your child will <strong>at</strong>tend.<br />

KINDERGARTEN ROUND UP<br />

Kindergarten Round Up will be held on February<br />

22, 2011, <strong>at</strong> your child’s elementary school. If you<br />

are not sure which elementary school your child<br />

will <strong>at</strong>tend, consult the <strong>School</strong> Loc<strong>at</strong>or fe<strong>at</strong>ure on<br />

the district website, www.usd<strong>231</strong>.com, or call any<br />

elementary school.<br />

If you have a student who will begin Kindergarten<br />

in fall, 2011, please call your child’s school in<br />

January to have his or her name placed on a<br />

preliminary Kindergarten roster.<br />

PARENT TEACHER ORGANIZATIONS (PTO)<br />

Each elementary school has an active Parent Teacher<br />

Organiz<strong>at</strong>ion (PTO). PTO’s sponsor many school<br />

events, including book fairs, carnivals, dinners, sell<br />

school spirit wear, and conduct fund-raising activities.<br />

Contact your school offi ce to fi nd out the PTO<br />

contact person(s) for your school. You may also sign<br />

up for PTO membership <strong>at</strong> enrollment.<br />

SCHOOL SUPPLY LISTS<br />

An offi cial list of recommended school supplies for<br />

each elementary building and grade level is available<br />

on your school’s website, or from the school offi ce.<br />

If you need assistance obtaining school supplies,<br />

please contact the <strong>Gardner</strong> Multi-Service Center <strong>at</strong><br />

856-7405.<br />

TRANSPORTATION TO SCHOOL<br />

Driving your Child to <strong>School</strong><br />

Parents who drive their child(ren) to and from<br />

school are asked to utilize the design<strong>at</strong>ed drop-off<br />

and pick-up loop, which is separ<strong>at</strong>e from bus traffi c<br />

zones <strong>at</strong> all elementary schools. Please pull forward<br />

to the student drop-off and pick-up area, and remain<br />

in your vehicle. Maintain a low speed when entering<br />

or exiting school parking areas, and be cautious of<br />

students who may be walking or riding bicycles.<br />

Bus Riders<br />

Bus route schedules are available on the district<br />

website, www.usd<strong>231</strong>.com and from the First<br />

Student Offi ce, loc<strong>at</strong>ed in the <strong>District</strong> Maintenance<br />

Service Center building (on the north side of the<br />

Nike Elementary <strong>School</strong> Campus) 19450 S. <strong>Gardner</strong><br />

Road. Call 856-5650.<br />

Bicycle Riders and Walkers<br />

Please utilize sidewalks and design<strong>at</strong>ed crosswalks,<br />

and cross roadways with the assistance of a <strong>Gardner</strong><br />

Public Safety crossing guard, where available.<br />

VISITOR POLICY<br />

Sign-in <strong>at</strong> the school offi ce. If you visit your child’s<br />

school during the course of the regular school day,<br />

please sign-in <strong>at</strong> the school offi ce and obtain a<br />

Visitor sticker. Th e sticker should be clearly visible<br />

and worn throughout your visit.<br />

<strong>School</strong>s are accessible to the public via the main<br />

entrance doors only during the regular school day.<br />

Visitor parking is available near the main entrance <strong>at</strong><br />

most school buildings.<br />
