ELEMENTARY SCHOOL INFORMATION
KINDERGARTEN PROGRAMS
Half-Day Kindergarten Program
USD 231 off ers a traditional half-day kindergarten,
either morning or afternoon sessions (as assigned by
the district).
Extended-Day Kindergarten Program
If additional childcare is needed for the remainder of
the day, the parent may contract with the Johnson
County Parks and Recreation District (JCPRD) to
enroll their child in an extended-day kindergarten
enrichment program. Contact Lisa Hughes at 856-
7925 for more information. Some private day care
providers in the area also off er similar services.
All-Day Pay Kindergarten Program
All-Day Pay Kindergarten is available at all elementary
buildings. Parents will be required to pay for
one-half of the school day, at a rate comparable to
child care. For more information, call the school
where your child will attend.
KINDERGARTEN ROUND UP
Kindergarten Round Up will be held on February
22, 2011, at your child’s elementary school. If you
are not sure which elementary school your child
will attend, consult the School Locator feature on
the district website, www.usd231.com, or call any
elementary school.
If you have a student who will begin Kindergarten
in fall, 2011, please call your child’s school in
January to have his or her name placed on a
preliminary Kindergarten roster.
PARENT TEACHER ORGANIZATIONS (PTO)
Each elementary school has an active Parent Teacher
Organization (PTO). PTO’s sponsor many school
events, including book fairs, carnivals, dinners, sell
school spirit wear, and conduct fund-raising activities.
Contact your school offi ce to fi nd out the PTO
contact person(s) for your school. You may also sign
up for PTO membership at enrollment.
SCHOOL SUPPLY LISTS
An offi cial list of recommended school supplies for
each elementary building and grade level is available
on your school’s website, or from the school offi ce.
If you need assistance obtaining school supplies,
please contact the Gardner Multi-Service Center at
856-7405.
TRANSPORTATION TO SCHOOL
Driving your Child to School
Parents who drive their child(ren) to and from
school are asked to utilize the designated drop-off
and pick-up loop, which is separate from bus traffi c
zones at all elementary schools. Please pull forward
to the student drop-off and pick-up area, and remain
in your vehicle. Maintain a low speed when entering
or exiting school parking areas, and be cautious of
students who may be walking or riding bicycles.
Bus Riders
Bus route schedules are available on the district
website, www.usd231.com and from the First
Student Offi ce, located in the District Maintenance
Service Center building (on the north side of the
Nike Elementary School Campus) 19450 S. Gardner
Road. Call 856-5650.
Bicycle Riders and Walkers
Please utilize sidewalks and designated crosswalks,
and cross roadways with the assistance of a Gardner
Public Safety crossing guard, where available.
VISITOR POLICY
Sign-in at the school offi ce. If you visit your child’s
school during the course of the regular school day,
please sign-in at the school offi ce and obtain a
Visitor sticker. Th e sticker should be clearly visible
and worn throughout your visit.
Schools are accessible to the public via the main
entrance doors only during the regular school day.
Visitor parking is available near the main entrance at
most school buildings.
