DISTRICT INFORMATION ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS Entering preschool, kindergarten or fi rst grade requires: 1. State issued birth certifi cate (hospital copies not accepted); 2. Offi cial record of all required immunizations; 3. School physical. To enter kindergarten: A child must be fi ve years old on or before August 31, to be eligible to enter kindergarten. To enter fi rst grade: A child must be six years old on or before August 31, OR have completed public kindergarten to be eligible to enter fi rst grade. Transfer students into the district must have a state issued birth certifi cate or school records from a previous Kansas school and an offi cial record of required immunizations. Out of District Admissions: In order to attend the Gardner Edgerton School District, a student must live within school district boundaries. ATHLETIC PASSES A 2010/11 GEHS Family Athletic Pass may be purchased in the high school activities offi ce for home athletic events. Th e purchase price of the “punch” pass is $30 and provides the holder 10 prepaid admissions to an athletic contest at GEHS. At admission time the ticket taker will make a “punch” for each person entering the contest. When the 10 punches have expired another pass can be purchased through GEHS Activities Offi ce. Note: the GEHS Family Athletic Pass is not valid for tournaments, KSHSAA athletic events, and is not valid at PRMS or WMS. A 2010/11 Middle School Family Athletic Pass may be purchased for middle school events. A pass costs $30 and allows admission to 10 events. 3 ATHLETIC PASSES (con� nued) Note: the Middle School Family Athletic Pass is not valid for GEHS home events. Student athletic passes may be purchased at GEHS, WMS or PRMS, and allows an individual student to attend all home sponsored athletic events, with the exception of tournaments and KSHSAA events. Golden Passes for Seniors are available to any resident who is age 65 or older. Th e pass grants seniors full admission to only home activities at all USD 231 schools, with the exception of KSHSAA State Tournament events. Senior citizens are also eligible to receive a Frontier League Golden Pass, which grants full admission to all middle school events held at any Frontier League Middle School. Senior citizens should call the District Offi ces Building at 856-2006 to request a Golden Pass. . BOUNDARIES Boundary adjustments are typically made 1) when a new school opens and/or 2) to ensure one or more schools do not become overcrowded. Th e district’s most recent boundary change was adopted in the 2007/08 school year. Boundary Maps are located on the inside back cover of this handbook.
DISTRICT INFORMATION BUS SERVICE (First Student) Transportation enrollment forms must be submitted by July 26, 2010 in order for your student to ride during the fi rst week of school. You may submit your completed form on Enrollment Day (take your form to the transportation table), or mail your form to First Student, 19450 S. Gardner Road, Gardner, Kansas 66030, or utilize the drop box on the west side of the District Maintenance Service Center (Nike campus north entrance drive). IMPORTANT: A student may begin riding the bus on August 19 if the transportation form is received between July 27-August 13. Forms submitted after August 13 will require two business days for processing. First Student Pay-To-Ride Rates 2010/11 REGULAR RATES Same Family Semester Annual One Child $110.00 $220.00 Second Child $ 82.50 $165.00 Third+ Child $ 55.00 $110.00 EARLY PAY RATES Due by August 6 Same Family Annual One Child annual only $170.00 Second Child annual only $127.50 Third+ Child annual only $ 85.00 Payment of Bus Fees • Fares may be prorated if a student moves into the district after school has started. • Th ere are no refunds unless a student moves out of the district during the course of the regular school year. • Fees may be paid by money order, check or credit card (VISA or MasterCard). First Student does not accept cash payment. Make checks payable to First Student. Th ere is a $20 returned check fee. • Questions may be directed to the First Student Offi ce at 856-5650. Bus Transportation Policy Page 17-18 Bus Discipline Guidelines Page 18 CHILDCARE PAY PROGRAM On-site childcare is available at the elementary level through the Johnson County Parks and Recreation District. A minimum number of children must be enrolled at a school for a program to be off ered. Care options include: before and after school care for elementary aged children, extended day kindergarten enrichment and full-day preschool for 3-5 year olds. EARLY CHILDHOOD SCHOOL-BASED PROGRAMS Early Childhood Education Preschool services are provided to children with and without special needs. Monthly Child Find screenings are available. For more information, call the Special Services Offi ce at 856-2080. Gear Up Preschool A Gear Up Preschool is available to district 4 year- old children who may be at-risk for developmental delays. For more information, contact the Special Services Offi ce at 856-2080. Step Ahead Preschool District 3-5 year old children with emotional or behavioral needs may qualify for this program. For more information concerning Step Ahead, please contact Helen Imel at 782-2100. Headstart Th e school district participates in the federally funded Head Start Program. Children whose families meet the income guidelines are eligible to attend the Head Start preschool. Children must be 3 years of age by August 31 of the current school year. More information can be obtained by contacting the Head Start Director at 780-7418. 4
