HIGH SCHOOL INFORMATION ATHLETIC PASSES GEHS Student Athletic Passes may be purchased at the high school. Th e $20 pass will allow an individual student admission to all home GEHS sponsored athletic events. Th e Student Athletic Pass is not valid for Tournaments and KSHSAA events. A 2010-2011 GEHS Family Athletic Pass may be purchased in the high school activities offi ce for home athletic events. Th e purchase price of the “punch” pass is $30 and provides the holder 10 prepaid admissions to an athletic contest at GEHS. At admission time the ticket taker will make a “punch” for each person entering the contest. When the 10 punches have expired another pass can be purchased through GEHS Activities Offi ce. Note: the GEHS Family Athletic Pass is not valid for tournaments, KSHSAA athletic events, and is not valid at PRMS or WMS. ATTENDANCE Gardner Edgerton High School is in session from 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Regular attendance is essential for success in school. For specifi c attendance policies, parents and students should refer to the Student Handbook provided to each student at the beginning of the school year. Please read and understand the schools’ policies regarding: CONTACT INFORMATION It is important for the school to maintain updated information in case parents need to be contacted in the event of an emergency. Please notify the school offi ce immediately with any change of address, home or work telephone numbers. 15 • How to report your student absent • Tardies • Detentions • Excused absences • Unexcused absences • Make-up work BOOSTER CLUB Th e GEHS Booster Club is an active parent organization that supports student athletics through a wide variety of fund-raisers and activities. Th e Booster Club also runs the Blazer Outpost, which sells all offi cial GEHS spirit wear. Th e Booster Club usually meets on the second Monday of every month at 7:00 p.m. in the GEHS Commons. To become a member of the Booster Club, please contact the school offi ce at 856-2600. DRIVING TO SCHOOL (Student Drivers) Students driving vehicles to school must follow the safety precautions established for their protection. Only authorized vehicles will be permitted in the student parking lots at GEHS. All authorized vehicles must have a properly displayed student lot permit in the upper left front windshield to park on GEHS property. Students who plan to drive to school during the 2010/11 school year should obtain a permit request form from the school offi ce. Students should refer to the GEHS Student Handbook for specifi c rules and regulations regarding driving to school and parking on school premises. ELECTRONIC DEVICES USAGE POLICY Th e USD 231 Board of Education adopted the Electronic Devices Usage Policy on May 7, 2007. Per the policy, students must keep their phones (along with all other personal electronic devices, including MP3 players) in their lockers during the instructional school day. Cell phones are not permitted in classrooms. Students may check messages after the fi nal bell. Th e policy took eff ect on August 13, 2007 and pertains to all students, grades K-12. HIGH SCHOOL INFORMATION ENROLLMENT and Textbook Rental Fees Parents should complete an enrollment packet for each child who will attend a district school. Parents must complete the enrollment process for each child by July 22, 2010 (Walk-In Enrollment). If you are new to the district and were not able to enroll by July 22, please contact the school offi ce. Each student is assessed a textbook rental and enrollment fee, which includes a student planner. All fees should be paid at the time of enrollment. PHYSICAL EXAMS FOR ATHLETES All middle school and high school students involved in 2010/11 athletics must have a physical completed after May 1, 2010. Th e physical form must be the approved KSHSAA Pre-Participation Physical Evaluation Form and is available on the school website. Th e physical must be completed by a licensed physician (MD, DO, DC or RPA). A completed physical and insurance waiver must be on fi le with the school before the athlete can begin sports practice. STUDENT ORIENTATION SCHEDULE GEHS students may pick up their class schedule and locker combination from the school offi ce anytime after August 2, 2010. Th is information will only be distributed to those students who have completed the enrollment process and paid fees. Th e GEHS open house will be held on Monday, August 23, at 7:00 p.m. Th e format includes a brief session in the Auditorium followed by classroom visitation. STUDENT NEWSPAPER & GEHS YEARBOOK Th e GEHS Newspaper staff produces Th e Blazer Bulletin monthly during the regular school year. Parents and patrons may obtain a subscription to Th e Blazer Bulletin at a cost of $10 per school year. Advertising opportunities are also available in each issue. Th e GEHS annual yearbook can be purchased at a cost of $50. Th e deadline to purchase a yearbook is April 1, 2011. STUDENT PROGRESS & GRADES At GEHS, reports of student development and progress are sent home every 4.5 weeks. Semester grades are reported in December and May. Only the semester grades will be refl ected on the GEHS transcript. Semester grades are utilized to calculate G.P.A. and determine class rank. 16
