TECHNOLOGY—<br />
CERTIFICATE 11I<br />
Units 1 – 4. VCE VET programs are fully recognised<br />
within the unit 1–4 structure of the VCE and<br />
therefore contribute towards satisfactory completion<br />
of the VCE.<br />
The Certificate III in Information Technology provides<br />
students with a number of skills in different<br />
areas: students learn the value of good communication<br />
techniques, they learn how to look after the<br />
basic administration of the computer, they learn<br />
valuable software skills in a number of programs<br />
including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and<br />
Access, they learn how to maintain internal and<br />
external peripheral devices, and integrate the management<br />
of these components into the broad computer<br />
system, and they also learn how to provide<br />
instructions to users of a computer system.<br />
Program<br />
This course would prepare a person to perform in<br />
a range of varied activities. An individual achieving<br />
these levels of competencies would be able to:<br />
demonstrate some relevant theoretical knowledge<br />
apply a range of well developed skills<br />
apply known solutions to a variety of problems<br />
perform processes that require a range of<br />
well-developed skills<br />
interpret information<br />
take responsibility for ones own work.<br />

LABORATORY<br />
SKILLS<br />
- CERTIFICATE 111<br />
Units 1 – 4. A study score is available for this<br />
program.<br />
This program is designed to develop skills and competencies<br />
for a range of entry level scientific and<br />
technical laboratory areas. Students can incorporate<br />
the VET Certificate III in Laboratory Skills with VCE<br />
studies either through a <strong>school</strong>/TAFE class room<br />
mix or online.<br />
Skills developed offer an advantage to students contemplating<br />
university level science courses.<br />
Training and Employment Outcomes<br />
Students qualify with training in aspects of laboratory<br />
operations including safety, equipment, analytical<br />
instrumentation, computing, chemistry and biology<br />
After successful completion, students may gain employment<br />
as laboratory assistants<br />
Program<br />
Students gain training in practical skills and knowledge<br />
relating to employment within a laboratory<br />
including communication skills, processing and recording<br />
data, OHS, sampling, testing, handling and<br />
transport of samples, receipt and preparation of<br />
samples for pathology, and aseptic techniques<br />
Special Requirements<br />
Log Book to be maintained during SWL<br />
Laboratory coat and equipment for class based<br />
delivery<br />
Students are required to undertake 40 hours of<br />
SWL.<br />
