The Frozen Lake
Alexander Kamberov
Poetry
Dark, impertubable, obscure,
A frozen lake with no single crack atop,
With no single window or door for you to look through,
It glares at you and blinds your eyes and sense.
It’s fragile with its thin ice cover,
Yet it never cracks.
The pressure of the mounting snow,
The beauty of its thick white cover,
The complexity of a hidden soul.
It shouts,
But this thin translucent armor never lets the voice through.
The stifled shout attracts and dies unheard.
Or shall I tell them
What you told me
Revealing the key to an eternal human quest,
A quest most vague and futile.
Yet you are not so steady,
And I can see the cracks now on your surface.
The snow’s away,
And so is your enigma.
You blind no more,
Yet they still can’t see in you.
Your waters shout the key to a quest most different,
Yet no one dares submerge in your voice.
End
What are you trying to say, most dear lake
All that everyone wants to know
Your voice is smothered,
But can I hear
A message no one ever got.
Or shall I ignore you,
And pretend not to know,
Easing off into a puerile indifference
