Message from the LOOM Board of Officers
Hurricane Sandy gave us and pretty good run but we made it through without a problem. Fall
season has started and I am certain that our activities committee chairpersons will schedule
activities that will bring us indoors with a variety of interesting things for all of us to enjoy.
We had the Oyster Feast on the 10 th of November and had a real good turnout. Everyone enjoyed
and had a great time. Ed Mills, Chris Cornwell, and others did a Great job of shucking
the Oysters and they had a good time working together for this feast. GREAT JOB GUYS,
KEEP IT UP. Continue to pay close attention to the calendar which is at the rear of this publication
and mark your personal calendars so you will not miss out on anything of interest to
you which is scheduled and not mentioned in this article.
Looking forward to seeing more of our members in the coming months. There will be some
exciting changes which are in the planning stages to experience as the year progresses, so
don’t be a stranger.

Administrators Message
As most of you know, Our Governor, Brother
Bunky Clark turned in his resignation on November
the 1st. He stated that his wife's health issues
required more of his attention and he felt it
was in the best interest of the Lodge to find
someone else to lead our Lodge so that he could
spend more time with his family. Brother Bunky,
I wish you the best and hope that Maureen gets
well real soon.
Also our Jr. Governor Brother Mike Bruss has resigned
due to personal reasons. The Board is also
in need of a Trustee. So, we are asking our
membership, who is ready and willing to step
forward and help our Lodge to achieve our goals
for the remaining year If anyone is interested
please let any of the Officers know.
December will be a very busy time for everyone.
There will be parties to attend, family gatherings,
and of course shopping until we drop. Your lodge
is also offering plenty of activities for our members
and their guests. Our Queen of Hearts jackpot
is growing. Wouldn't a little extra spending
money come in handy in time for Christmas
The annual Christmas party will be on December
22nd and we all know how hard Mona and her
crew works to make that night a blast. Of course
you can come to the lodge every Friday and Saturday
night for a great meal. So I hope that you
find time in your busy schedule to spend a little
time at the lodge. You may want to bring a
guest or two and sign them up.
A wonderful opportunity was recently offered to
our lodge. On December the 9th we will have
a very special guest at the lodge. Movie and TV
star Erik Estrada will be at our lodge promoting
the Safe Surfin Foundation. This Foundation is
responsible for educating our children about the
dangers that they face while on the Internet. We
are planning to hold an afternoon of activities to
help raise funds for this most worthwhile project.
Ladies, maybe for a small donation, I bet that
Erik will be willing to have close up photos taken
with you! He also has been known to give autographs
somewhere on your person, just remember
though, this a family event! So plan to join
us on the 9th from noon to four.
To finish off the month and 2012, once again the
lodge is planning a super New Years Eve dinner
and dance. Look for the flyer in this bulletin for
more details.

Moose Legion News
Our meeting on November 3 consisted of a small
group, but we continued to discuss ways to raise
funds for our Children’s Room at the Lodge.
Thanks to everyone who attended and
participated in the meeting and discussions.
Since Kenny Head was away, I really appreciated
the guidance from some of our more experienced
Legionnaires who helped me with the meeting.
Pat Newberger provided another excellent meal.
His tacos, special refried beans and rice were
awesome.
Hope you can come and join us for our meeting
this month which will be held on Saturday,
December 1. The social hour will begin at 5:00
p.m. and the meeting will start at 6:00, followed
by dinner and the Moose Legion’s Annual Nasty
Santa Party. If you would like to contribute an
appetizer or snack for the social hour or the
Party, please feel free to bring something. For
dinner, Pat is making homemade meatloaf, twice
baked potatoes and fresh from the garden green
beans. For those attending the meeting the cost
will be $7 and the price for everyone else will be
$8. Children under five will be $3.
For anyone who has never attended our Nasty
Santa Party in the past, please come join us and
experience the fun. All you need to do to
participate is to bring one wrapped gift costing
$15-$20 with no tag or identification on the
package. The gift packages are all placed on a
table. Everyone bringing a gift will draw a
number and as your number is called you can
choose one gift or you can take a gift from
someone who has already pulled a gift. Then,
they are allowed to take another gift either from
the table or another person who has already
selected a gift. Sometimes a favorite gift will go
all around the room from person to person and
you never know who will get it until all the
packages are distributed. Look for the flyer at
the Lodge.
Hope you will come out for this month’s meeting,
dinner and party. Also, please support our Lodge

functions and remember to tip the waiters and
bartenders.

WOTM Message
Well it is hard to believe but the time has come
for football, tailgating, warmer clothing and those
many holidays. The Board of Officers would like
to wish every Lodge and Chapter member a
healthy and safe Holiday season. Remember our
Troops, the homeless and our residents at
Mooseheart and Moosehaven as you sit down to
enjoy your holiday dinners. Please drive safely
and if we have any of that nasty four letter word,
i.e. snow, please be careful and do not over exert
yourself shoveling.
On December 5, 2012, we will be hosting the
WOTM Community Service Chapter Activity
Night Meeting beginning at 7:30 p.m. This is
an open meeting for all co-workers and is a good
time to bring your friends down to see what we
do. The WOTM Business Meeting will be held on
Wednesday, December 19, 2012, at 7:30
p.m. Come and join us on one of these evenings
of information and social time. We are still
looking for a Senior Regent, Junior Regent
and several Committee Chairmen.
The Children’s Christmas Party will be on
December 8, 2012 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
Make plans to join us for a great time. This year
we will be holding a joint Christmas party
with American Legion Post 162. Please check
out the flyers at the lodge. Also, be sure to sign-

up each of your children from the age of 0 to 12
on Santa’s wish list behind the bar. Please put
first and last names, age and 1 toy they would
like to have.
Please remember to send back your ticket stubs
and money for a chance to win the 100 th
Anniversary Basket from Mooseheart. This is a
very nice basket. The tickets are $1.00 a
piece and the drawing will be on December
19, 2012. If you need more tickets please
contact a member of the board of officers or
check with the bartenders to see if there are
any behind the bar in our mailbox.
Co-workers if you know of any co-workers who
have not paid their dues and wish to please let
them know we still want them to be a part of this
great fraternity. If you have any family members
who have not joined and may be interested
please bring them to the lodge so they can see
what we do and the impact we have on the lives
of our children and senior members at
Mooseheart and Moosehaven.
We will be NOT behaving our dinner in December
due to the Lodge Christmas party on December
22, 2012. Come out and see what Mona and the
bartenders have prepared for your enjoyment
that night and see old friends and make new
ones.

Academy of Friendship
Due to the Safe Surfin Foundation event at
our Family Center with Erik Estrada on
December 9 th , we have canceled our
Christmas banquet this year.
We are collecting items for the Lorton Community
Action Center. Please leave donations at the
Lodge. Lists of items are posted at the Lodge.
This and care package items for our soldiers
overseas are ongoing projects during the year. If
you need ideas, please drop me a line.
Shirley Head is recovering from a fall, please
keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

Chaplain & Prelate Corner
Dear Moose Members, WOTM Co-workers and
Families,
We are here to help support our brothers and coworkers
who are ill, have had major surgery or
who are fighting to recover from a debilitating
illness. We can each make such a tremendous
difference. Keep those cards and notes coming!
Such a simple act means so much to the
receiver. It says “we care.”

-Dru Doan is at home and doing better. Please
keep her in your prayers. Please keep Ruthi and
Richard Pietras in your prayers, also.
-Tommy Brown, Shirley Head’s son is home and
doing better. Please keep him and Shirley in your
prayers
-Donna Badgett’ son-in-law, Craig Tanner, who
was hospitalized with ulcer problems. He is a chef
and that really has got to be a problem.
-Shirley Head took a spill at the Lodge and had
to be transported to the hospital. She is still
hurting but is doing better.
-Barbara Darley is having problems with her
knees. Please keep her in your prayers.
-Let us all remember the victims of Hurricane
Sandy and their families and troops overseas
during this Holiday season.

Sports Message
With the Holiday seasons approaching and all of
the Christmas parties going on during the
weekends, there will be no sporting events in the
month of December. Be sure to support the
Christmas parties and the New Years Eve party at
the Lodge. Look forward to next year. Let me
know if there are any special sporting events that
you would like to hold at the lodge.

Our Lodge has opted to no longer mail our
monthly bulletin. Due to rising costs of printing
and mailing this seems to be a wise move in this
tough economy. Bulletins will now be emailed
and available on our website: www.loom583.org
AND the VMA Website, www.vmaweb.com
By doing this you will be able to see what is
happening at the Lodge and Chapter sooner for
the upcoming month!! My goal is to have the
bulletin available to be emailed and on the
websites at least 5 days prior to the end of the
month. HOWEVER to do this I must have all
articles/flyers on time.
Our Lodge and Chapter are in need of Officers
and Chairmen. Please consider taking the time to
help out our great fraternity and OUR Family
Center! There are many people willing to help
you along the way.
