ADVANCE REGISTRATION
Advance registration is required for all Junior Docent School Program tours and graduation. Docent
availability is limited, and reservations are required at least four-six weeks in advance of the
desired tour date. Complete and submit a Junior Docent School Program Tour Request Form
online or call the Tour Scheduler directly. Space availability for graduations is dependent on other
activities and events occurring in the Museum. Please give alternate dates and times when
requesting your school’s tours and graduation.

You will receive a tour invoice/confirmation within ten business days after receipt of your tour
requests. If we cannot accommodate all of your requests, we will contact you to arrange alternate
plans.
TOUR TIMES
Docent-guided school group tours are booked Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, every halfhour
from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursdays tours are booked from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. During October,
November, March, April, and May, school group tours are also scheduled on Tuesdays,
Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays starting at 9:30 a.m. Docent-guided tours are one hour in
length from your scheduled start time. The following tours are ninety minutes in length: Year 1, Tour
1, Experiencing Art Through the Senses with the optional Studio Workshop, and Year 3, Tour 3,
Study and Sketching of Artwork. The Museum is closed on Mondays, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
GROUP SIZE
The minimum group size per visit is 10 students; the maximum, 120. Group size includes students
only. The reduced size helps maintain a proper teaching environment in the galleries.
CHAPERONES
The presence and assistance of teachers and adult chaperones are essential during school tours.
Adult chaperones are responsible for student conduct and adherence to the Museum’s visitor
etiquette. One chaperone per ten students is required.
Chaperones must stay with their group while visiting the Museum. Please ensure that all
chaperones are aware of the vital role they will play during your tour. In addition, please share the
“Chaperone Responsibilities” handout. The Museum requires that chaperones
1. monitor and supervise students through the duration of the visit;
2. explain to and model for the students the Museum’s visitor etiquette (view the Museum Manners
video at mam.org/u/museum-manners);
3. assist in the distribution of materials and in clean-up after in-gallery activities.
ADMISSION
One adult chaperone per ten students is required; these adults are admitted free of charge. One
additional adult per ten students is admitted at the student rate. Any other adults must pay the full
adult group tour fee.
