Graduation<br />
Student Preparation for Graduation<br />
Junior Docent presentations are approximately 4–5 minutes in length and should include<br />
the following:<br />
1. Report on the work of art<br />
Prepare an outline and use notecards for assistance during the presentation. The<br />
presentation should include<br />
a. information about the artwork,<br />
b. information about the artist,<br />
c. analysis and criticism of the artwork,<br />
d. connections with artwork, personal, via history or items in the <strong>Museum</strong>’s Collection,<br />
etc.<br />
2. Reproduction of the work of art<br />
Create an accurate reproduction of the work of art that<br />
a. makes use of creative materials or creative use of materials;<br />
b. if two-dimensional on paper, is mounted onto mat board or heavy stock paper;<br />
c. is manageable and able to be carried by the student through the galleries<br />
independently.<br />
3. Aesthetic response to the work of art<br />
Produce a creative response to the chosen work of art that captures the essence of the<br />
artwork while conveying that essence through another medium such as poetry, music,<br />
drama, dance, etc.<br />
4. Audience questions or participation<br />
Prepare a question or two to ask the audience about the work of art, or allow the<br />
audience an opportunity to ask questions about the presentation or the chosen work of<br />
art.<br />
School/<strong>Teacher</strong> Preparation for Graduation<br />
Plan your Junior Docent Graduation with your school’s <strong>Museum</strong> docent liaison. She or he<br />
will help with ideas and logistics. Junior Docent graduations are 1 to 1½ hours in length,<br />
depending on the number of students, and commonly include the following:<br />
Welcome by <strong>Museum</strong> staff in Lubar Auditorium<br />
Short musical or theatrical performance by a group of the school’s students, such as a<br />
dance class or symphony orchestra (the students can be of any grade and do not need<br />
to be the Junior Docents)<br />

Logistics of gallery presentations by <strong>Museum</strong> staff/docent liaison<br />
Junior Docent presentations in the galleries with families and peers<br />
Brief comments by school teachers and administration (i.e., art teacher and principal)<br />
Group distribution of certificates by teachers and photography opportunities in either<br />
Windhover Hall or Lubar Auditorium<br />
