Butterfield Stage Days<br />

The second weekend in<br />

May the city of Bridgeport<br />

celebrates the <strong>to</strong>wn’s reason<br />

for existence — the Butterfield<br />

Overland Mail Stagecoach.<br />

A bridge was built in<br />

order for this stagecoach <strong>to</strong><br />

cross the Trinity River, thus<br />

initiating the establishment<br />

of the city of Bridgeport.<br />

Events include:<br />

• carnival rides and<br />

booths<br />

• vendors<br />

• a parade<br />

• a PRCA rodeo<br />

Coal Miner<br />

Heritage Festival<br />

In celebration of the city’s<br />

heritage, the Bridgeport<br />

Chamber of Commerce and<br />

Bridgeport His<strong>to</strong>rical Society<br />

co-sponsor the annual<br />

Coal Miner’s Days Festival<br />

in September.<br />

This one-day event includes:<br />

• live entertainment<br />

• a coal mining display<br />

• antique <strong>to</strong>ols<br />

• a blacksmith<br />

CHICO<br />

Community Volunteer Fire<br />

Department Chili Supper<br />

and Annual Barbecue<br />

The chili supper is held<br />

the second Saturday in<br />

February, and the annual<br />

barbecue is held the second<br />

Saturday in June. These<br />

events serve as a fundraisers<br />

for the volunteer fire<br />

department.<br />

DECATUR<br />

Main Street Easter Event<br />

Decatur Main Street sponsors<br />

this Easter celebration<br />

the Saturday before Easter.<br />

• face painting<br />

• a petting zoo<br />

started in the ‘70s at the<br />

Trail Days celebrate western<br />

heritage.<br />

Homecoming<br />

Greenwood Fall Festival<br />

The annual Greenwood<br />

Fall Festival is held the<br />

second Saturday in Oc<strong>to</strong>ber<br />

with proceeds benefitting<br />

the <strong>Wise</strong> <strong>County</strong> Extension<br />

Agency and Greenwood 4-H.<br />

PARADISE<br />

Main Street Festival<br />

The Paradise His<strong>to</strong>rical<br />

September <strong>to</strong> raise funds for<br />

the Veterans Memorial Park,<br />

located in Paradise’s down<strong>to</strong>wn<br />

park.<br />

RHOME<br />

Pioneer Days<br />

In either May or June of<br />

each year, the Rhome Volunteer<br />

Fire Department Support<br />

Rhome Pioneer Days at the<br />

fire station <strong>to</strong> benefit the<br />

fire department.<br />

This two-day event includes:<br />

• a parade featuring antique<br />

cars and firetrucks<br />

• craft and vendor booths<br />

• entertainment<br />

• bounce house and kids’<br />

• briskets sold by the fire<br />
