First Annual ‘Athletes Against
Autism’ Softball Game
Did you know that autism affects 1
in 150 children and is the fastest growing
developmental disability April is
Autism Awareness month and the
Northwest High School softball program,
with the support of Keller softball,
is hosting its first annual “Athletes
Against Autism” game on Friday,
April 10.
To support the cause, you may purchase
a Handprint for $1. These Handprints
will be available at Northwest
High School during lunch, and donations
will be accepted at the April 10
softball game. All proceeds will go to
the Autistic Treatment Center of Dallas.
Seven Hills Science
Extravaganza Night
Seven Hills Elementary School and
the PTA will host a Science Extravaganza
Night, 6 p.m., Tuesday, April
14. Parent and student scientists will
conduct hands-on experiments in the
cafeteria throughout the evening.
Plugged-in Parenting
Parents who would like to learn more
about the cultural messages facing today’s
youth about dating, drugs, video
games, cutting and more, should plan
to experience a powerful, eye-opening
presentation at 7 p.m., Thursday,
April 16 at the Performing Arts Center
(PAC), 2201 Texan Drive, Justin.
Any parent who has wondered (or worried)
about the effect of the Internet
on their child and his or her friends
should attend this free seminar hosted
by Northwest ISD.
International speaker, author and
counselor Jeffrey Dean will help parents
plug into the world of their children.
After speaking to hundreds of
thousands of teens around the world,
Jeffrey Dean shares his knowledge
with parents through public seminars.
He says the world of teens often involves
adult-like activities and interests,
dangerous behaviors and peer
pressure to conform to a live-for-themoment
society where teens do what
feels good instead of doing what they
know is best.
Jeffrey Dean recognizes these dangerous
messages in society greatly
conflict with the values and desires
that most parents have for their children.
His presentation at the Northwest
High School PAC will include:
■ How to communicate and stay connected
with your kids.
■ The top TEEN things every parent
needs to know.
■ What really happens when kids
surf the Web.
■ Know about cutting, dating and
sexual behaviors.
In addition to the information gained
at Plugged-in Parenting, one parent
will leave the seminar with a Wii console.
