MISSION<br />

<strong>Columbus</strong> <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Art</strong> & <strong>Design</strong> prepares tomorrow’s<br />

creative leaders for pr<strong>of</strong>essional careers. With a history <strong>of</strong><br />

commitment to fundamentals and quality, CCAD advances<br />

a distinct, challenging, and inclusive learning culture that<br />

supports individual development in art, design, and the<br />

humanities.<br />

DESCRIPTION AND BRIEF HISTORY<br />

Founded in 1879, <strong>Columbus</strong> <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Art</strong> & <strong>Design</strong> is one<br />

<strong>of</strong> the oldest and largest private art colleges in the country<br />

with more than 1,300 students from 40 states and 35 foreign<br />

countries. CCAD’s 14-building campus is located on 9 acres<br />

in downtown <strong>Columbus</strong> and is within walking distance <strong>of</strong> the<br />

<strong>Columbus</strong> Museum <strong>of</strong> <strong>Art</strong>, the main branch <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Columbus</strong><br />

Metropolitan Library, and the Ohio Statehouse.<br />

CCAD <strong>of</strong>fers a Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Fine <strong>Art</strong>s degree in nine major<br />

areas <strong>of</strong> study: Advertising and Graphic <strong>Design</strong>, Animation,<br />

Fashion <strong>Design</strong>, Fine <strong>Art</strong>s, Illustration, Industrial <strong>Design</strong>,<br />

Interior <strong>Design</strong>, Media <strong>Art</strong>s, and Photography. All BFA<br />

students complete traditional academic coursework in<br />

the sciences and humanities in addition to their studio<br />

requirements.<br />

A graduate degree, the Master <strong>of</strong> Fine <strong>Art</strong>s in Visual <strong>Art</strong>s:<br />

New Projects, is also available.<br />

ACADEMIC CALENDAR<br />

In addition to sixteen-week Fall and Spring Semesters, CCAD<br />

<strong>of</strong>fers an eight-week Summer Semester, two four-week<br />

Summer Sessions, and a May Minimester. May Minimester<br />

is a short semester designed to <strong>of</strong>fer an intense experience<br />

working in one area with faculty, mentors, or visiting artists.<br />

Courses taken during these abridged semesters carry full<br />

credit.<br />

Following are typical schedules for Fall and Spring<br />

Semesters. Regular hours may be changed or extended for<br />

special events. Please note that many labs are open even<br />

after their building’s doors are secured; see individual labs/<br />

studios for details. In addition, certain labs/studios are<br />

usually open 24/7 for the last three weeks <strong>of</strong> every semester;<br />

information regarding special hours will be made available<br />

through email and signage at that time.<br />
