the Arts Awards Banquet
on Sunday, May 15, 2011
13th Annual Achievement in the Arts Awards Banquet
Westmoreland County high schools for their outstanding efforts in music,
theater and the visual arts.
The emcee for the evening was Marvin Huls, Professor of Music at Seton Hill
University. He welcomed the audience by stating, “It is a difficult time for those of
us in the arts, but I firmly believe this: The arts
are fundamental to our educational system.”
He continued and relayed seven pieces of
advice to the graduating seniors including,
“Resolve to be passionate about your art.
Resolve to say ‘thank you’ more, especially
to those special people who have brought
you to this point and who were important in
your artistic development. Resolve to offer
excuses less. Resolve to do something that
helps someone but benefits you in no way.
Resolve to be where you said you’d be (and
POINT. CLICK. GIVE. BRAVO!
The challenges facing a non-profit whose primary
mission is to provide cultural and economic development
through live performing arts are great. Over the last
few years, a down economy and foundation giving
reductions have presented a number of financial
challenges. However, through this difficult time, the
Trust has been able to count on members such as you
who are willing to not only renew their membership but
take that extra step by participating in the Pittsburgh is
Art Day of Giving.
Through this 24-hour online event, the Trust welcomes
eight new members and thanks veteran members who
chose this particular day to rejoin, renew or add to their
membership.
personal responsibility for your actions.”
Judge Debra Pezze also shared her thoughts on the importance of recognizing
students in the arts, stating the banquet is “a wonderful opportunity for us to
recognize the talent and toils of these young adults who do so much to enrich
the quality of life in our community.”
Greensburg Area Cultural Council and Westmoreland Cultural Trust would like
to thank event sponsors Dollar Bank, First Commonwealth Bank, McDowell
Associates Insurance and Sanford-Brown Institute for making this celebration
possible.
We extend a special thank
you to Westmoreland
County Community College
for hosting the banquet
and Trib Total Media for
bringing awareness of
these talented students to
the community.
Over $1.4 million was contributed for more than 150 local nonprofit organizations. Truly a
resounding success!
On behalf of the Board of Directors and Westmoreland Cultural Trust, thank you for your
participation and for making this online event a tremendous success for our community of arts
and culture nonprofits.
