All terms have been checked against Merriam-Webster’s 3 rd International Dictionary, Unabridged (2002). Queries (‘’) indicate that it is recommended that JSC discuss the inclusion or otherwise of the term in the RDA Glossary. For some terms defined in the text, JSC will need to decide whether additional Glossary definitions are required. Those for which Glossary definitions have been suggested/may be deemed suitable for Glossary inclusion are given here. Please see the separate table ‘Terms defined in the text – constituency comments’ for further details on other terms defined in the text. Term Access point Activity card Definition (draft AACR3 where given, or AACR2) A name, term, code, etc., under which a bibliographic record may be searched and identified. A card printed with words, numerals, and/or pictures to be used by an individual or a group as a basis for performing a specific activity. A musical work that represents a distinct alteration of another work (e.g. a free transcription); a work that paraphrases parts of various works or the general style of another composer; a work that is merely based on other music (e.g. variations on a theme). See also Arrangement (Music) A title page preceding or following the title page chosen as the basis for the description of a resource. It may be more general (e.g., a series title page), or equally general (e.g., a title page in another language). See also Series title page. A resource containing two or more separately titled component parts, a multipart resource, or an assembled collection. Comments ALA: Some members of ALA questioned whether this entry belongs in the Glossary as the phrase does not occur in AACR3 Part I. ALA: It would seem that most Web sites are aggregate resources, but this is not clear from the definition. The glossary needs to address here or elsewhere where Web sites and online databases belong in the [RDA] conceptual universe. In AACR2 In draft AACR3 Required in Glossary √ X YES √ √ (Define in text) X X YES Alternative title The second part of a title proper that consists of two parts, each of which is a title; the parts are joined by or, or its equivalent in another language (e.g., The tempest, or, The enchanted island). The definition needs some semicolons; it currently reads as if the resource can contain component parts, multiparts, or collections. Put a semicolon instead of a comma after “parts” and “multipart resource.” ALA: The second clause following the semicolon reads too much like a rule for treatment in descriptions. Perhaps revise to: “… the parts are often joined by …” √ √
