Participants learn to identify children’s behavior to determine<br />
whether it is normal, developmentally appropriate<br />
or problematic. Cooperative discipline is explored in the<br />
wider context of classroom management, working with<br />
staff and parents. Behaviors are examined and participants<br />
learn to prevent certain behaviors and guide children<br />
through the use of positive discipline. The focus is on how<br />
an adult can behave when a difficult situation arises<br />
and be as effective as possible.<br />

include structured observation, analysis of the roles<br />

reflective teaching.<br />

How can you make the most of your teaching with art<br />
In this fundamentals course, participants start with a review<br />
of artistic expression at each stage of early childhood<br />
development, then move on to understanding ways to<br />
foster creativity and the creative process. Participants<br />
work hands-on with basic art processes, such as painting,<br />
modeling and weaving. Participants learn to prepare<br />
age-appropriate lessons that build visual and spatial<br />
awareness and relate art to other key curricula: science,<br />
mathematics, language arts and social studies.<br />

This course satisfies part of the State Licensing<br />
requirement for the application of infant/toddler caregiving<br />
principles. The course “Infant/Toddler Growth and<br />
Development” fulfills the remainder of the requirement.<br />
This course is designed for those who work with children<br />
up to three years of age. The course focus is on understanding<br />
the principles of high-quality caregiving. Topics<br />
include understanding the adult role in the development<br />
and implementation of curriculum for infants and toddlers,<br />
and essential curricula components such as physical<br />
setting, social environment and play.<br />
